When the weather is below freezing my 2002 Toy Avalon has random episodes where it doesn't want to start. I have to pump the gas and try several times, when it finally starts it will suddenly start revving real fast and then as it warms up it gradually evens out. Do you know what is causing this? It's been doing it every winter for several years.

Sounds as though you may well have water condensation in your fuel lines that froze. Bummer. Or your fuel pump failed due to same type of freeze, or was on it's last legs before the final insult.
probly hav a wiring issue--also chec fuses and relays--inspec fuel pressure regulator in engine area--try to get a diagnostic scan from a mobile mech--a haynes manual is a must for detailed troublshootn
If its because of the cold weather try taking out the battery and letting it thaw out for a day or two , also you may want to buy some Heet for your car to pour in the gas if you get it running again it helps the gas to not freeze
have your ABS system scaned for codes(intermtent code) as for the car not goin out of park when applying the brake, there is a level or linkage that works as a safety, this linkage may need adjustment.the linkeage goes from thr pedal(brake) to the shifter, some of the work thru a selenoid that gets activated when the switch is on.
Could be a warning that your fuel pump may be going. The gas level monitor is controlled by a float in the gas tank. It is attached to the fuel pump attachments. It too is electronically controlled.
do you get a spark first then go to the next steep, follow the spark from the coil to the plugs
then check to see if you are getting gas. Take off the fuel line and turn the key, maybe the gas froze too then check to see if the water pump cracked or it there are any cracks in the engine
