Putting distributor back in the right way

Replaced head gasket's , then put heads back on put in push rod's then rocker arm's ajusted the rocker arm's according to the book i have still have valve cover's off in case they need adjusted more. my problem is trying to put the distibutor back in and getting it line up with the number #1 cylinder

Okay. Turn the engine untill you have the crank mark lined up with the 0 on the pointer. At that point, look at the valves on #1 cylinder. They should both be closed, or in the "up" position. If they aren't, you'll have to turn it one revolution, to get to compression stroke. Now, you're ready to put the distributor in. Take the top off the cap, and position it in the hole, so that the rotor lines up with #1 on the distributor cap. If it's a newer one, take a close look inside at where #1 actually is because the newer ones are off set a little. Now, tighten the cap on, and hook up the plug wires, one at a time in the proper order and rotation. When you try to start it, it should run where it is, but you may have to turn the distributor slightly one direction or the other to make it start. Try your best to keep it running for 20 minutes or so the first time so your gaskets will set. ( not always an easy task when the valves aren't adjusted, and antifreeze can still vapour lock on you) If you need to know more, let me know.

95 suburban 1500 head gasket repair


small block chevy head gaskets are fairly easy to do ..pull throttle body distributor vac lines unplug harness pull intake manifold pull exhaust manifolds loosen rocker arms just enough to get the off pushrods pull push rods make a template of placement you will want them to go back where they came from remove brackets from front of heads a/c alternator power steering ect now heads should be ready to pull after removing bolts of course do install in reverse will torque specs and sequence for install if you do one gasket should just do both and when they are off take to machine shop and have tested and checked for straightness

Torque settings for rocker shaft for a 1998 7k toyota 1800


There is no such thing as a rocker shaft. There is a cam shaft, rocker arm assembly, Rocker arm, lifter etc. If you are talking about the rocker arm assembly that bolts to the head, it is 58 Ft/lbs. If you are talking about the actual rocker arms, you tighten them till they contact the push rod and the valve stem and then you put oil control clips on so the oil does not spray and you start the engine. You tighten them down till the chattering noise goes away, then back them off 1/8 to 1/4 turn.

I am replacing the head gasket on my 2000 pontiac grand am 3.4L engine. The push rods got mixed up and i need to know if the shorter rods go on the intake or exhaust side?


As you assemble things, it will become obvious as to whether you're attempting to put in a wrong length push rod. If it is wrong, it will appear that you need to adjust the rocker arm way different than it was originally to make it work. They just will not readily interchange. I think you'll do just fine.

My son has a 3.1 v 6 Lumina engine & was replacing the head gaskets. and he may have gotten the push rods in the wrong place, for someone that has never been in a engine before it is I guest easy to...

Intake push-rods measure 144.18 mm "the short ones".
Exhaust push-rods measure 152.51 mm"the long ones".

Below is an image of the top of a 3.1; in red are the exhaust rocker arms, in blue are the intake rocker arms. The other head follows the same pattern just examine and follow the ports.

Torque the rocker arm bolts to 124 in.lbs. plus 30 degrees.

INSPECTION
Inspect the pivot surface area of each rocker arm.
Replace any that are scuffed, pitted, cracked or
excessively worn.
Inspect the valve stem tip contact surface of each
rocker arm and replace any rocker arm that is deeply
pitted.
Inspect each push rod end for excessive wear and
replace as required. If any push rod is excessively
worn because of lack of oil, replace it and inspect the
corresponding hydraulic tappet for excessive wear.
Inspect the push rods for straightness by rolling
them on a flat surface or by shining a light between
the push rod and the flat surface.
A wear pattern along the length of the push rod is
not normal. Inspect the engine cylinder head for
obstruction if this condition exists.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: This procedure can be done with the engine
in or out of the vehicle.
(1) Lubricate the ball ends of the push rods with
Mopart Engine Oil Supplement, or equivalent and
install push rods in their original locations. Ensure
that the bottom end of each push rod is centered in
the tappet plunger cap seat.
(2) Using Mopart Engine Oil Supplement, or
equivalent, lubricate the area of the rocker arm that
the pivot contacts. Install rocker arms, pivots and
bridge above each cylinder in their originally position
(Fig. 23).
(3) Loosely install the capscrews through each
bridge.
(4) At each bridge, tighten the capscrews alternately,
one turn at a time, to avoid damaging the
bridge. Tighten the capscrews to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.)
torque.
(5) Install the engine cylinder head cover (Refer to

Removal
  1. Drain engine cooling system.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) .
  1. Remove engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600) including air cleaner outlet tube (9B659) .
  1. Loosen drive belt tensioner (6B209). Remove drive belts (8620) .
  1. If LH cylinder head (6049) is being removed, perform the following:
    1. Remove oil filler cap (6766) .
    1. Remove power steering pump front mounting bracket retaining bolts.
    1. Remove generator (GEN) (10346) and belt idler pulley (8678).
    1. Remove power steering pump/generator bracket retaining bolts. Leave hoses connected, place pump/bracket assembly aside in a position to prevent fluid from leaking out.
  1. If RH cylinder head is being removed, perform the following:
    1. Remove drive belts .
    1. If equipped with A/C, remove mounting bracket retaining bolts. Leave hoses connected and position A/C compressor (19703) aside.
    1. Remove positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve) (6A666) .
  1. Remove upper intake manifold (9424) .
  1. Remove valve cover retaining bolts.
  1. Remove fuel injection supply manifold (9F792).
  1. Remove lower intake manifold as outlined.
  1. Remove exhaust manifolds (9430) as outlined.
  1. Loosen rocker arm seat retaining bolts enough to allow rocker arm (6564) to be lifted off the push rod (6565) and rotate to one side.
  1. Remove push rods . Identify position of each push rod . Push rods should be installed in their original position during assembly.
  1. Remove cylinder head retaining bolts and discard.
  1. Remove cylinder heads .
  1. Remove and discard old head gaskets (6051) .
Installation
  1. NOTE: Lightly oil all bolts and stud bolt threads before installation except those specifying special sealant.
    Clean cylinder head, intake manifold , valve cover (6582) and head gasket surfaces. If cylinder head was removed for head gasket replacement, check flatness and sealing areas for scratches of cylinder head and cylinder block gasket surfaces. Refer to Section 03-00 for procedure.
  2. Position new head gaskets onto cylinder block (6010) using cylinder head to block dowels (6A008) for alignment.

  8. For each valve, rotate crankshaft (6303) until valve tappet (6500) rests on the heel (base circle) of the camshaft lobe, before tightening rocker arm seat retaining bolts to 7-15 Nm (5-11 lb-ft) maximum.
  9. Lubricate all rocker arms with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford Specification ESR-M99C80-A. Final-tighten the rocker arm seat bolts to 30-40 Nm (22-30 lb-ft). For final tightening, camshaft (6250) may be in any position.
  10. Install exhaust manifolds as outlined.
  11. Install lower intake manifold as outlined.
  12. Install fuel injection supply manifold .
  13. Position valve cover and new valve cover gasket (6584) on cylinder head and install retaining bolts. Note location of ignition wire routing clip stud bolts. Tighten retaining bolts to 9-12 Nm (7-9 lb-ft).
  14. Install upper intake manifold .Install spark plugs (12405) , if removed.
  15. Connect ignition wires to the spark plugs .
  16. If LH cylinder head is being installed, perform the following:
    1. Install oil filler cap.
    1. Install generator/power steering pump mounting bracket.
    1. Install generator .
    1. Install main accessory drive belt tensioner .
    1. Install power steering pump (3A674) .
    1. Install power steering pump support bracket.If RH cylinder head is being installed, perform the following:
    1. Install positive crankcase ventilation valve .
    1. If equipped with A/C, install A/C compressor mounting brackets (2882) and A/C compressor .
  17. Install drive belt and tighten to specification.
  18. Connect battery ground cable .
  19. Install air cleaner outlet tube.

How do i replace the head gasket in a 2000 dodge durango.


3.9L, 5.2L, and 5.9L Engines To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Battery negative cable
    • Coolant
    • Intake manifold-to-alternator bracket support rod
    • Alternator
    • Closed crankcase ventilation system
    • Evaporation control system
    • Air cleaner, air in-let hose and resonator
  3. Release fuel system pressure.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel supply line from the fuel rail
    • Accelerator linkage and, the speed control and transmission kickdown cables (if equipped)
    • Distributor cap and wires
    • Coil wires
    • Coolant temperature sending unit wire
    • Heater hoses and bypass hose
    • Vacuum supply hoses from the intake manifold (3.9L Engine)
    • Fuel injector harness and secure out of the way (3.9L Engine)
    • Cylinder head covers and gaskets
    • Intake manifold and throttle body as an assembly
    • Exhaust manifolds
    • Rocker arm assemblies and push rods, and identify to ensure installation in original locations.
    • Head bolts from each cylinder head and remove cylinder heads
    • Spark plugs
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • New cylinder head gaskets into position on the cylinder block
    • Cylinder heads onto head gaskets and cylinder block
  2. Tighten all cylinder head bolts, starting at top center and in sequence
    1. Torque to: 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm)
    2. Repeat and Torque to: 105 ft. lbs. (143 Nm)
    CAUTION
    When tightening the rocker arm bolts, ensure that the piston in that cylinder is NOT at TDC.
  3. Install or connect the following:
    • Push rods and rocker arm assemblies in their original positions.
      1. Torque to: 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
    • Intake manifold and throttle body assembly
    • Exhaust manifolds
    • Spark plugs
      1. Torque to: 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm)
    • Coil wires
    • Coolant temperature sending unit wire
    • Fuel injector harness (3.9L Engine)
    • Vacuum supply hoses to the intake manifold (3.9L Engine)
    • Heater hoses and bypass hose
    • Distributor cap and wires
    • Accelerator linkage and the speed control and transmission kickdown cables
    • Fuel supply line.
    • Alternator and accessory drive belt.
      1. Alternator bolt - Torque to: 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm)
    • Intake manifold-to-alternator bracket support rod and bolts
    • Cylinder head covers
    • Closed crankcase ventilation system
    • Evaporation control system
    • Resonator assembly (3.9L Engine), air in-let hose and air cleaner
    • Heat shields
      1. Torque to: 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm)
    • Coolant
    • Negative battery cable.

Where is the head gasket located in the engine of the mazda 323f BJ model, how do i get to it to change the head gasket.


its the gasket between the head[valves rocker arms and push rods]and the cylinder[pistons] meet-- if ur not mechanical this is not a job to try ---

Oil not getting to back rocker, push rod clear. had a new head gasket put on, pulled head to see if it was put on backwards, it was not. how do you replace lifter.


Since you already have had it apart, you know at what point you can see the lifter. Lifter pulls straight up out of its bore, new one drops right in. If cam contact surface is worn concave, you need to replace cam as well. Always use assembly lube on lifter/cam contact surface when installing.

You failed to mention which engine you have.
If it is a push-rod engine, the push-rods may need to be matched to the head you are trying to use.
The condition you describe sounds like the push rods are too long.
