Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The parking brake on my '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (straight 6, 4WD) does not function correctly. I've replaced every element of the system except the cables and adjusted the shoes until they rub even when the brake is not engaged. Still, the parking brake provides so little resistance that it fails to prevent the car from moving when idling in drive or reverse and cannot hold it on a hill in neutral. The pull is difficult, so tension is going somewhere; I suspect a mechanical problem, but I'm at a loss as to what might be wrong.
Check the rear brakes. Possible they are out of adjustment or worn shoes.
