Question about 2000 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Intrepid with a 2.7L engine, it has a spun bearing and its making a tapping noise... i need to make the noise stop. I just purchased the car and it started to make that noise the day after, so now im looking to trade it in at a dealership and am looking to get the best price i can. If you have a solution that would make the noise be quiet for even just a day that would be great!!! Thanks!

Gear oil best bet but don't use alot it can catch the engine on fire. P.S i work as the forman for a dealership and 2.7 engine have known sludge issues I don't think there are going to miss this. when we get a old generation 2.7 we change the oil right at trade in to see the condition but u may luck out. Good luck and buy a 3.5 enigne or 5.7 enigne next time enigine and trans are bullet proof.

Oil light flickers when slowing down or stopping

check to make sure the oil level is correct. if this is good and there is no engine noise then it could be the oil pressure switch has gone bad and needs replacing. if you have an engine noise then get the oil pressure check as you could have a bad oil pump or engine components worn out like bearings.

Tapping noise - oil pump?

Its possible the oil pump is going bad, but I doubt it would make the noise you describe.
Usually a tapping noise is a valve lifter or a piston connecting rod.
And low oil pressure could cause either, as well as dirt blocking one of the oil passages in the engine block.

Hearing noise from my engine of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

well either your lucky and you have an exhaust leak (very common on the 4.0 jeep engines) or you have a collapsed lifter, bad wristpin, spun bearing...and other assorted bad mojo.. if it is a 4.0 its very common for them to have exhaust leaks due to the long cast iron manifold. its also common for them to have noisey lifters once they get up there in millage. i have a 2000 jeep and the lifters on it have been making noise for about 40 thousand miles and i havnt had any issues with it. just went to a slightly thicker grade of oil. hope this helps

I hear a knocking nosie in the front of the car and it stops when i reach about 50 miles per hour and will start again when i slow down or stop at a light or stop sign. the cv joint has been replaced on...

so the noise changes with vehicle speed and NOT engine speed?

did they also replaced the intermittent shaft and bearing

however, this cause more of a humming noise than knocking

therefore start looking at transmission concerns

I am having knocking noise in my motor, but if i put the car in neutral, and shut it off, and turn it back on it stops making the noise for a few min.. it is a intrepid 2.7 liter engine 2000 and has only...

When ever the car is put into gear you are putting a load on the engine. Just like if you are lifting up a heavy box then setting it down. When you get the weight out of your hands you seemed releived don't you? The same with any vehicles engine. A engine will wear out just the same as we get older. The knocking noise is a worn main crank bearing that is worn out. I would sell the car this summer with a oil change performed using a couple pints of STP to stop the noise

Loud clicking/clanking noise on 200 Intrepid

Sounds like the motor is going out. 2.7s are bad about rod bearings going out. If you don't use the correct weight oil, and change it every 3K, they don't hold up too well.
