Check thermostat. if okay. check bottom radiator hose. it could be collpsing, sticking to gether. the faster the motor turns the it sucks together. replace bottom radiator hose.

Could be water pump propellar going bad, doubt if its the thermostat they either work or dont work. Check your belts make sure they are tight belts could be slipping.
Also clean the front of the radiator this can be done with radiator cleaner you can buy at most any parts store.

Why when i put in drive and go it goes into 1 or2 or drive by it self while driving

It always starts out in first, it's a 3 speed automatic, that's what automatics do. they start out in first and at about 15-20 miles per hour , they shift to second gear, and when the speed is about 35-45 MPH, the transmission automatically shifts into third gear, or Drive.

Bigger automatics have 4 or more speeds. Till recently, 4 speeds were the norm, and fourth gear was often dubbed Overdrive, as it allowed the engine to run slower in 4th gear, than it had to maintain speed in 3rd gear, drive. It's good, it increases your mileage per gallon of gas, so you save that way, but like all things more complicated, they cost more to fix when something goes wrong.

1996 explorer what gear do u drive in and?do u supposed 2 cut the overdrive off when?just regularly driving

OVERDRIVE is fine in most driving. if you tow a trailler or pulling long hills take out of overdrive. otherwise the vehicle will handle when to shift.

That means the transmission is going into Limp mode - something's wrong that is making the car believe it can be damaged by the speeds the upper gears will allow you to reach. For starters, check the fluid level (or just change it - it's not a bad idea), and disconnect the battery for an hour or so to put the ECU into relearn mode - this will clear current fault codes and allow you a fresh start to see if the condition reappears, or if it was a fluke failure of some part that caused the car to repeatedly go into limp mode.
