Question about 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

The plastic tank on the driver's side was leaking coolant. Before we could get it fixed the serpentine belt broke. I would like to attempt to repair both myself but need some advice.

I have a 1998 Cadillac DeVille D'elegance and it has a coolant leak the temperature rises but doesn't overheat I just got the car a few days ago and know nothing about it please help

well section off the car on flat ground let idle until leak leaves signs on the ground in front on the wheels hoses, radiator, on right side of car near rear heater hoses waterpump on drivers side hoses engine gaskets.

Coolant Resevoir Tank Leak

A repair might buy a little time but you should replace.Either the junk yard or dealer will have this is a coolant resevoir.

I have a 99' Durango in which my serpentine belt

I would not drive the car at all, except to a shop to have the leak fixed, the car checked out good to see if the overheating is stopped, and if the fix also corrected the serpentine belt problem-sounds like a seized pulley and it may be the water pump pulley. Overheating is one of the major causes of early engine failure. Don't put it off, or you'll be overheating from a major repair bill!

It is your coolant expansion tank.If its broke its hard to try and fix.There might be things on the market that you could use to try and fix it but they usually end up being more costly than what you would pay for a new one.My suggestion would be to replace it and save yourself some aggravation.

Grand Marquis LS 2004 smoking under hood on drivers side what is possibility of being gasket? no broken hoses ..not short on oil. no radiator or heater problems. ..brand new thermostat installed...

This model uses a composite (some would say plastic) intake manifold, which has been known to develop cracks in the area of the thermostat housing. In addition, the water pump has a pipe to the back of it that emerges in the rear of the intake manifold. Both of these areas peculiar to this motor are known to leak coolant. In its history, many of these plastic manifolds had to be replaced, and there were even techinical bulletins from Ford on them. If you have leak in the tube or pipe that goes under the intake manifold to the back of the water pump, then you will likely want the dealer to fix it, as you may need a new water pump.
Two things then to watch: 1) coolant level and color and 2) any signs of leakage behind the main serpentine belt in the area of the water pump.
Since the serpentine belt is large on the 4.6L motor, and due to its rotation, it is possible that you only have a bad water pump and that the liquid is being thrown by the rotation of the motor. The water pump is not a difficult repair, as it comes off with only a few cap screws. However, if it is detached from the rear inlet pipe (as I mentioned above), it would require that the manifold be removed for it to be reattached. This is not a difficult job, but is very time consuming.

Just had the water pump and serpentine belt fixed and now my "low coolant" light just came on. what does this mean?

That warning light comes on when the level of coolant in the plastic reservoir tank becomes low. It is possible that the tank just needs topped off after the work on your car was performed. Basically, check the coolant and fill as needed, then keep an eye on your level to make sure there are no leaks on your vehicle since it was worked on.

Plastic L shaped hose next to serpentine belt and altenator is cracked and antifreeze leaks out of it. How difficult is this to replace and what is the part called???

That is the coolant inlet elbow for your alternator bracket/tensioner pulley assembly, very easy to fix.

Just let the motor cool off first and have more coolant handy.

Serpentine belt broke and i think the water pump is bad

The battery light and brake light are on because the belt isn't turning the alternator. The house with columns means it is low on antifreeze. You need to put the belt back on an check for antifreeze leaks. I would say you waterpump likely locked up and roasted the belt and that is where the antifreeze is leaking also.
