2003 Silverado 1500 temperature gauge is not correct even when cold

Can you check for applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.

The gage defaults to 160 F under two conditions. The pcm detects a problem with coolant temp sensor circuit or the ipc detects a loss of communication with the pcm.

Replacing the coolant temp sensor may or may not fix it. If a problem with any wiring circuit replacing the sensor won't fix it.

WERE DO I FIND THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Most parts stores have a parts location chart in their computer. If not, coolant temp sensor should be located near the thermostat, screwed into the intake manifold and have two wires. If you find one with 1 wire, that is for the dash cluster not the ECU.

Where is the coolant temp sensor on a 2002 1500 silverado 4.3 v6. I have replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air flow sensor and all 4 o2 sensors and my service engine light still comes on.The truck has...

The service engine light means that there is a sensor that is bad or something is wrong. The only way to tell what sensor is bad is to get the diagnostics ran. You can do this at any Autozone. It is free. They will give you a printout of all of the codes that is making the service engine light come on. And what sensor that is causing this.

1994 Chevy Silverado 1500. RPMs ramp up on start up and then fall back down to normal. Runs real rich, gassy exhaust, and poor fuel economy. Changed fuel filter, cap and rotor, air filter, plugs and wires...

I can almost guarantee the engine coolant temperature sensor is faulty or very dirty. You will find it on the top of the intake manifold, just beside the thermostat or upper rad hose housing. It is a 2 wire sensor, brass. It can be removed with a 3/4" or 19mm deep socket. It is the primary input to the engine computer before the O2 sensors take control (after engine warms up). Don't attempt to remove when hot or under pressure, refill and bleed after. You will notice a huge difference to fuel economy.

Most likely the coolant temperature sensor for the vehicle computer. Secondly, could be the tps sensor "throttle position sensor" not registering correctly or perhaps lots of other things but most likely the coolant temp sensor.
