Axles are usually $50-$200 (if you buy at like an Auto Zone) each and take about 1-1/2 hrs each to replace (at the repair places hourly rate). they will be more if you have the repair shop provide them so normally if the shop does all the work you could see $150-$300 per side to replace...

U joints or balljoints go out in axle. About $60 for the entire axle and about $90-$120 to install.

Hi, The front end of my mazda clunks real bad and loud, while turning the wheel at any speed. Both directions. Help!

Check boots on CV joints for tears. Torn boots result in CV wearing out. The boots are at each end of the axles going from your transmission to the front wheels. The normal repair is to replace axles. Both can be more carefully inspected on a lift before deciding if only one or both axles should be replaced. Any questions, please reply. I'm going to bed now, but will answer any replies tomorrow.

I have a Mazda 626, 2001 with 124,000 miles. My check engine light went on. What do I need to do? I just recently purchased it from an indiviual. I am low on funds and really can't take it to a dealer...

Take it to Auto-zone or something similar, they will bring out the diagnostic tool, connect and pull the codes for free. Could be as simple as you didn't tighten the gas cap tight enough..

Clicking sound when turning hard or in reverse turning....

Usually that is the sign of a cv joint going. I have an accord with front wheel drive and it did the same thing. THe cv boot being torn could have caused the initial breakdown of the bearing faces...

4 WD clunking and clicking sound when turning left or right

Sounds like the front drive axles are worn.My 89 MPV had the same "clicling" noise with an occasional clunk. The reason you feel it more in 4wd mode is because power is now being transfered thru the worn axles. I replaced both sides for approx $375(Axles rebuilt were 130 for drivers side and 110 for passenger side the rest was labor)
