Sounds like the valve stem seals are bad and letting the oil drain by the valve guide and into the cyls. when it sets, witch will make it smoke until it burns away. Also your drain back holes in the corner of the head under the rocker covers could be plug and not letting the oil drain back thru the oil drain back gullies and its running thru the valve guides.

4.3 liter and or any of the V-8's the valve seals , little rubber rings get old and brittle and no longer do the job.
what happens when you shut the engine off the oil from the rocker arms flow down the valve stem and collects then when you go and start the car you get a little shot of motor oil into the combustion chamber, hence a little blue smoke for 20 -30 seconds something most of us live with as its more of a pain to fix than it is to live with.

I changed my engine block and replaced the rings and bearings but the car is smoking and using oil

  • Smoke and abnormal oil use means the car is burning oil.

If you get smoke when accelerating hard (eg from rest or in high gear when overtaking) it means the oil is getting past the piston rings which indicates worn bores, pistons and/or piston rings.

If the smoke appears after an over-run* it points to worn valve guides, valves or faulty valve stem seals.

*over run = for example when you descend a hill in gear but with foot off the accelerator. The engine is acting as a kind of brake. The smoke billows out when you accelerate.

Blue smoke is usually oil, white is usually coolant, and black is usually fuel.

1994 chevy c1500 5.7 oil burning white smoke

If it smokes all the time when the engine is running then the piston rings are worn out. If it only smokes for a short time when accelerating, then the valve stem seals need replacing.

Speed is lesser and smoke releases through salencer

Smoke on the exhaust shows an indication of the fault on the car engine. A blue smoke is an indication of fuel loss, a blue smoke also indicates that oil is burning due to cylinder lining or rings failure. Also blck smoke indicates high acceleration specially in diesel engines and also can be an indicator of a poor engine state.
Also if the silencer is clogged it can show up black smoke on acceleration. It will be best to check for oil use, cylinder compression and fuel use so that you can get an inference on the fault.

BLUE SMOKE FROM AUDI RS6 ON DE ACCELERATION AND START UP THINK OIL STEM SEALS ARE LETTING OIL THROUGH. CAR RUNS FINE I THINK, AND EXCESSIVE BUILD UP OF OIL IN DRIVER SIDE TURBO PIPE, 62000 MILES WITH A...

General rules of thumb: Low speed engine on acceleration with smoke in the exhaust plume = worn piston rings High speed engine accelerating (spooled up turbo) with smoke = oil form turbo bearing and/or piston rings Engine on over run (coasting down, foot off the gas) with smoke = oil from valve guides. VW/Audi make good engines with tight tolerances so none of the above should apply at 62K miles; just make sure that the oil (the right oil) and oil filter are changed regularly.

Have excessive blue or white smoke from exhaust when truck is started after sitting for a few hours 2005 f250 6.0 ehgine

Hi,
is it a diesel or gas engine?
Usually excessive blue smoke on start up indicates oil is getting into the combustion chamber. It could be piston rings or valve seals.
Quick check, drive it within operating range and speed. Either use the rear view mirror or get someone to drive it and you follow in another vehicle. Accelerate, then take your foot of the accelerator. Blue smoke under acceleration indicates piston rings / pistons. Blue smoke on deceleration or the "over-run" indicates worn valve guides / seals.

White smoke can indicate coolant in the combustion chambers / leaking cyl head gskt, or incorrect fueling. If brake fluid gets into the combustion chamber it will generate a lot of white smoke from the exhaust. However, that would entail a leaking brake master cyl and a leaking brake booster.

Good luck.

How much should my Ford ranger 2.5td be smoking,is it normal for diesel engens to smoke.

Sometimes diesel engines will put out black smoke under extreme acceleration. Other than that, they shouldn't smoke. Black is excess fuel, White smoke is water and bluish is oil. White smoke on a cool morning is not necessarily a sign of a problem unless it happens every time you start it through a warm day. Hope this helps.
