Question about Dodge Ram 1500
Check the transmission fluid level, that is most common reason for troubles of this kind.
If replacing or refilling transmission fluid does not help, there are many possible reasons why this happens.
The most common is a faulty shift solenoid. The solenoid pack is located on the valve body in the transmission.
A faulty TPS or a faulty speed sender can cause trouble shifting.
A slipped component inside the transmission can cause similar problem.
The transmission is also controlled by a module caused TCM, that will be the last part to test.
The first step in troubleshooting is getting the fault codes from car computer.
You can get a free Fault Code reading at AutoZone. The test is free of charge.
If there is no AZ in your area, then you can either go to a local mechanic and have the code reading done for a small fee, or purchase a code reader and hook it to the PCM module to read codes.
If you have Autozone near, go there, and have the code scan done.
Take note of the codes on a piece of paper and come back here with the codes, so that we can be more specific on what the problem can be and how to fix it.
