My laguna 1.8 dynamic goes onto limp mode it has had a new throttle housing both oxygen sensors on the trip meters the mpg and range mode both are not working any ideas

pull codes from on board diagnostics turn key on not running press and hold hot button on temp and off at same time till dash lights up write down codes respond with all computer codes i will help you determine prodlem and try to fix

SOURCE: 2000 S-type Fail Safe Engine mode is intermittent.

change the throttle body posistion sensor and change the plugs if the throttle body was dirty the plugs can now be fouled out causing the problem the 02 sensor may be clogged as well from the cleaning try thid first this should work if not let me know ill tell you what else you can do hope this solves your problem.

Air filter? And any car I have ever owned with a timing belt has shown a noticeable drop-off in MPG when the belt had some miles on it. I would do what you have done but added (or at least eyeballed) the air filter. If that didn't bring it back, the timing belt was next since it doesn't take hardly any stretching to throw off the valve timing and it is critical to performance and MPG.

code p 0171 refers to system too lean bank 1== causes --intake /exhaust leak---AIR system---MAF/VAF sensor ---fuel pressure/pump--- injectors--- Heated oxygen sensor
by changing the O sensor (oxygen sensor ) you changed the wrong one and so there would be no change to the read out there
code p 2173 refers to throttle actuator control (TAC) system -high air flow detected ===causes --intake system---throttle body
fix the causes and you stand a chance of fixing the problem

Code is "Oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above normal operating range"

Very likely it's the Lambda sensor on the eshaust playing up. Check connections and get it tested.

Can give up with faulty fuel from some pumps.

Oxygen sensor fuse blowing causing limp mode and rear brake lights to come on even with sensor unplugged.car runs for a few miles then goes into limp mode


The only reason I can think where a fuse would be used for 02 sensor is the sensor heater circuit, maybe circuit is shorted to ground?
I need year--make--model??

PROBLEM: LACKING POWER, AND EXPERIENCING SLUGGISH ACCELERATION


Guessing here, might help to know the make/model/year/engine.
Sounds like you're running in "limp mode" because one of your sensors is either bad or simply not hooked up. Perhaps TPS (throttle position sensor) or MAF (Mass AirFlow)

code p2110 refers to throttle actuator control (TAC) system-forced limited rpm mode (limp mode)===causes wiring--tac motor- APP sensor--ECM
it also refers to heated oxygen sensor(HO2S) 1 bank 1 implausible signal===causes wiring .--short to positive-- short to ground--HO2S sensor---ECM
Check/replace the HO2S sensor and check the APP sensor and TAC motor.

Check engine light comes on after approx. one minute. My code reader gives me a 214 in continuous memory ( cylinder ID circuit failure). I clear the code and it comes back. What is giving me this code?...


look 214 is not a valid code for a 1995 escort, this is an OBD1 system. here is a list of trouble codes for this year of ford no matter the model.

You should find the diagnostic connector under your hood normally by the fender on the battery side. By just using your test light and a jumper wire, it will tell you what kind of problem you got.

KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) TEST
Model years 1984-1995 all models of Ford
1. Make sure engine is fully warmed. If in doubt, run engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes.
2. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds for system to shut off. Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).
3. Hook up light and jumper (or a tester if you have one). Turn key to ON (do not start engine). Read the codes.

How to do it?

Example code 23: your test light should flash 2 long consecutive flashes followed by 3 short pulses.

P2000 NOx Trap Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)


This code usually indicates a faulty oxygen sensor(s). However, in some instances it can also be used for a faulty catalytic converter as well, since the O2 sensors are located on the exhaust system along with the cat. converter(s). You should check your O2 sensors before replacing the catalytic converter. Here is a guide on checking these sensors.

All engines run on a optimum fuel to air mixture called "stokiometric" which means chemically balanced. This balanced fuel to air ratio is 14.7 to 1, 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel. The oxygen sensor is created using the active chemical such as zirconium, electrochemical (also known as Galvanic), infrared, ultrasonic and very recently laser. When a lean mixture code is detected by you or a technician the first tendency is to replace the oxygen sensor. The best way to check the operation of the sensor is to run a simple test. No matter if your engines oxygen sensor has one wire or four there is only one sensing wire that feedbacks information to the PCM. To find this wire you will need a car repair manual. If a trouble code is present that pertains to a oxygen heater sensor failure, replace the sensor to repair the problem. A oxygen sensor must be warm before it will operate properly.


Warning: If a malfunction exists with related components such as an engine misfire or engine vacuum leak do not perform this test. The oxygen sensor to designed to operate within a particular range, if this range is exceeded the sensor will give the appearance that it has failed.

SENSOR TEST PROCEDURE---

  • Step 1 - Once the oxygen sensor sensing wire has been located connect a volt meter to the feedback wire and ground. Select the millivolt operation on the meter.
  • Step 2 - Next, start and run the engine at idle until warm (about 15 minutes). Observe the voltmeter, it should bounce slightly at whatever voltage the sensor is centered at (about 150 millivolts).
  • Step 3 - Continue to observe the meter and have a helper rap the throttle. The meter should drop for a split second as the mixture leans out in the first milliseconds of the throttle bore being opened. Then quickly rise for a spit second as the throttle closes and the mixture richens. The volt meter should stabilize at the original operating voltage when the engine returns to idle.
Remember, if the sensor fails this test, replace it but if it passes, replace the Catalytic converter...
