How do you top the power steering fluid

Check the power steering dipstick level while the car is running. Then find the power steering reservoir under the hood. It may have pink fluid in it. It should be labeled "Power Steering". Add only about one or two ounces (a shot glass) at a time and keep rechecking your dip stick. You do not want to over fill it.

Why is my steering wheel hard after i rebuilt the power steering pump of a dodge durango 1999 5.9L SLT 4X4. It is filled up with oil i already turned it on above idle position.

if you rebuilt could be you reversed some kind of valve...or you could have air in system (there is a certain eay to bleed air out of the steering system on the newer cars...like all the way left, all the way right ....or you might have accidently used the wrong power steering fluid ....cars are picky these days ...we used to use automatic trans fluid in the old days....not anymore!.... the fluid bubbles, i did this in a `85 dodge van and thought the front wheels would fall off when going down the road...

No power steering

fill it with fluid and look for the leak the system is under the most pressure when the front wheels are all the way to one side or the other..(all the way left or all the way right) if a helper can turn the wheel, you can inspect for the leak to determine where its at..if a hose is craked open, you can cut it and install a ferrule and clamps on it,,if its the pump, it needs replaced..and if the pump growls already due to low fluids it will need replaced very soon anyway..good luck it can be driven carefully but I dont sugest it..

How do you bleed a power steering pump

hi.
power steering pumps do not normally need bleeding. just slowly turn the steering from one side full lock, to the other side and back a few times. this will get rid of any air in the system. keep an eye on the fluid leve while you are doing it though.

any problems after doing this would suggest a different problem, rather than air in the system

My 94 Jeep grand Cherokee power steering fluid is leaking. I fill up the fluid and a day later the fluid is all gone.

The lines coming off the unit are probably to blame, one is a high pressure line. Look for leaks around the fittings on both lines.

Last week my 1984 nissan truck started smoking. It clears up and started smoking again the next day. That same day I put in brake fluid and power steering fluid before it started smoking. My brother in...

It's possible you overfilled the power steering reservoir or perhaps spilled some that leaked down on the exhaust manifold. That would cause a lot of smoke until it burned off.

I came back from a 4 day trip and when I started the hybrid, I had no power steering or power brake assist.

Check your power steering fluid level. The power brakes are hydraulic assist and get hydraulic pressure from the power steering pump. If the fluid level is good you may have a bad pump. If the fluid level is low fill it up and find the leak .

Put in new power steringpump and house on 1999 ford taurus now it keeps blowing off powerstering cap. pushhing out fluid.

When installing power steering pump you should lift front of car up. Fill reservour up with fluid and trun steering wheel with ignition off about 5 to 8 times full revolution. This will take air out of system. Also make sure that lines are connected correctly. It sounds like there is possiblilty of are in the system.

2003 expedition replaced p/s pump and steering rack. it is still hard to initiate a turn in either direction regardless of speed

raise the truck up and turn the wheels left to right, you most likely have air in the lines.

Power steering audi a6 1999

First, I'd try refilling the fluid. You can't use fluid off the shelf - Audi uses proprietary power steering fluid, available at dealerships (probably a VW dealer can give you the same thing) or online at www.germanautoparts.com or www.ecstuning.com. Try refilling it. The power steering fluid is cooled by a cooler behind the lower part of the bumper, and the fluid itself cools the power steering pump. If you're low on fluid, the pump may be heating up and in turn, heating the fluid. Fill it to the proper level and keep an eye on it for a couple of days and see if that fixes the problem.
