Question about Cars & Trucks

Coolant leak I have a 2000 pontiac grand am that the low coolant light comes on when I go up a hill and when I stop to turn car off. I had it looked at and the engine is damp and there is a very fine mist so fine it is hard to see. Could this be the manifold intake gasket or what?

A simple cooling system pressure test will help locate the leak. First thing to do is tighten all hose clamps. A fine mist leak sounds like a pin hole in the radiator. The pressure test will verify exactly where the leak it.

1998 grand prix gtp stalls when coming to a stop and low coolant light stays on but car does not run hot.

Stalls when coming to a stop- have idle control motor checked as this may possibly be the cause.
Low coolant light stays on- there is a low coolant sensor located on the radiator on the passenger side. They are known to go bad on these models, this is a possible cause. Have your mechanic take a look at it.

Why does my 2000 pontiac grand am leak coolant

coolant leaking could come from different areas, i would 1st start checking for leaks around the thermostat area, this is normally where the top radiator hose connects too, then i would look at the water pump area to see if any coolant is visable on the outside of it, also check your heater hoses for leaks too, some cars have even had antifreeze leaks coming from the freeze plugs, which are installed into the engines block, they are normally on the sides of the engines. don't forget to check out the radiator, a good way to find antifreze leaks is after you drive the car for a while, and then park it, and then put a large piece of cardboard under your car, make it large enough to go from the radiator to at least the windshield area, if it leaks then, you will be able to see what area the antifreeze has leaked.

It sounds like the engine has a bad vacuum leak, they are very problematic for a leaking intake gasket. This usually would be accompanied with coolant loss, but not always. Other causes are loose air plentum snorkel (if air filter recently replaced) or a leaking vacuum hose. It could also be a sign of a computer problem starting. It would be best to have a technician or parts retailer scan it for you to narrow the problem down. The clunk noise maybe unrelated or possibly engine noise(like an intake issue), check the oil and coolant levels first.

Low coolant light comes on when coolant level is good

hi,
you may have a minute leak somewhere, my grand prix would do that, thats a persnickedy light to get to go out. I had a slow drip in one of my heater hoses, the sending unit should be somewhere on the coolant expansion tank. you can try this glow in the dark leak stuff I heard of, where you shine a black light on it, or you could try a piece of cardboard under the engine. look closely everywhere with a strong torchlight while its running to help you locate the problem, good luck..

Radio fuse keeps blowing - check tire pressure and low coolant lights come on - wipers will not go down when turned off

look for any leaks at the firewall and underneath the carpeting in your car. Mine did this a while ago and stopped when it was dry out. The check tire pressure is resettable by a little button under the right side of your dash next to - but under the instrument panel. Low coolant could be a leaking head gasket or intake manifold gasket(common), or a clogged radiator try having it flushed and look for any excessive coolant consumption or fluctuating coolant temps.
