Check voltage to battery, and the charging rate, could be that the alternator is bad. a fully charged battery should read 12.5 volts or higher with engine off, at least 14.0 volts when running. also check all wires to battery etc.

1998 massey 1250 diesel tractor has a new battery but will not turn over. When you turn the key everything go off and does not turn the starter

Question ,was it running before this happened

If so ,try and turn the crank shaft ,if it turns then the problem is either a battery cable , check connections at battery and starter and also the ground .

If this fails , take a pair of jumper cables hook to battery with out battery cables hooked up .

Then hook ground from jumper cables to frame and positive to large stud on starter solinoid , take screw driver touch large post of starter to small post on starter solenoid if it just clicks or does nothing replace starter.

Be very careful these are large amperage's your working with ,and can be dangerous ! if not comfortable with this method then just take starter out and have it tested in town.

2002 gmc 1500 4.8 engine- turn the key on everything comes on but engine just clicks.. then out of the clear blue sky it will turn over . had the batery checked and it was ok just 1 year old. n

Hi, I am a mechanic. As I understand you, It sounds to me like the solenoid on your starter is miss connecting. It will do as you say when you turn the key to the start position. sometimes it will just click every time you turn the key to start it will click. then out of the blue it will start. usually this is not so bad when the engine is warm. You can test the starter yourself to check it. You will need to remove it though. Don't forget to disconnect the battery first. Hope this helps

Buick Century power problem (will not start)

Double check the battery connections. The bolt part that you turn to tighten the cable ends to the battery will pop out of the cable ends. The plastic cover can then be removed and the cable ends can then be thoroughly cleaned. Whe reinstalling make sure the bolts are tight. The fact that the car starts with jumper cables tells me there is a connection issue with the battery. The one question I have is did you hook the jumper cables up to the battery or did you hook them up remotely? It is possible that the engine ground down by the starter may be bad. If you hooked the ground up to the block or someplace other than the battery it would explain why it started and ran but would not start on the battery.

My fuse box is makeing a real fast clicking sound on a 2004 lincoln/navigator

Mine was a bad battery, it does not have the power to activate the solenoid switch for the fuse box, that is the fast cliking sound you hear, test your battery, hook it up to another battery or jumper cables.

I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee the battery went dead tried to jump start it but the alarm just goes off every time i turn over the key so i tried using the key in the door to turn the alarm off but it...

Try closing the doors then hook up jumper cables, let it sit for a couple of minutes with cables hooked up and other vehicle running. Then try to use key to turn off alarm before opening door. Then try to start it.

Batterie died after trying to jump start it my car was dead i plugged it in to charge i turn the key and the lights work the car wont even click over when turned ignition to start

Make sure you have the car properly in Park with lights off and try. If there's no clicking you either have a very loose terminal on the battery or the battery is no where near charged up enough. Try to jump start with someone wiggling the wires for the jumper cables. Once it starts clicking, leave the wires alone and let the battery accept a charge about 10 minutes while the other car is hooked up and then try again.

Won't start just clicks I have a new battery and attenltor

The just clicks is aways a bad connection causing low voltage at the starter, But the starter can be bad or ( hung in) Turn the engine by hand to se that it will turn if you hear a loud click when you turn the engine the starter ws hung, The starter being loose or worn out will let the gear climb up on a tooth of the flywheel. once cleared it may start right up. if there's alot of gear noise then the starter and or the ring gear (flex plate) may be damaged and need to be replaced. Low voltage is most ofte the cause, The old batery being bad or the new one being low, ( not charged) is most often the cause. After turning the engine, With jumper cables connected to another running car try again, Try hooking the ground cable of the jumper cables right to the engine block or case of the starter. if ti starts this way and not after you unhook the cables you have a cable connection from the battery to the block or the positive cable where it hooks to the starter bad

2000 ford truck starting problems

most likley the positive wire has corroded off the starter. look at the small red wire more closely, if theres alot of corosion, replace the wire (and starter if needed) if you dont see much corrosion give the wire a good tug just to see if it really is hooked up well. you should disconnect the batt. before doing any of this.hope this helps and good luck
