to be honest we are currently looking at the car to see if we want to purchase, there was no smoke to come from the car, there is not a spot on the ground where the car is parked (has been in the same spot for a 3-4 days, the oil was changed about 3 weeks ago and has leaked down in that time. Thank you for the help

It could simply be burning oil; how many miles have you travelled since you last changed it, or added oil?

How long does it take for the car to lose a quart of oil? Have you parked the car over a large piece of clean cardboard and left it overnight? Are you seeing bluish-grey smoke coming out of the exhaust? Have you checked the underside of the car for "oily dirt"? These questions need to be answered before I can even begin to help you.

U don't have a leak, u have a worn engine, most likely the piston rings.

I own a 2003 GMC Envoy v8. I just got an oil change 5 weeks ago - the other night as I was driving, the engine started ticking. I check the oil and to my surprise, the dip stick came up clean. I added 5...

That is strange. Do not rule out the possibility that you have a leak somewhere in the vehical. I would check this out immediately, or it is going to cost more in the long run. Check the oil pan and the ground where you park your vehical.

Losing oil

look on your drive, are you starting your own slick, cos the US govt will bill you.....but if you are burning oil BP would like to hear from you...and you would have put so much smoke into the air, birds would need radar to see, otherwise look under the hood and see if you have a leak etc...and get back to us.

Can u change oil filter on Focus 1.6tdci 2009 model without loosing oil.(changed oil but could not get at filter so had to leave it.Or can i wait for next oil change to replace filter. Thanks

Whenever you remove and install a new oil filter you always lose some oil.On this particular model you should expect to lose about half a quart of oil.If you have the capabilities to change the filter then I would definitely recommend it.However, if you can not then it's not going to cause extreme damage to the vehicle, as long as this isn't done all the time.....Hope I could help!!!! rate me accordingly:)

I lose my oil on a regular, I have changed my oil filter every two months

you might want to keep track of your milage an see how often or after how many miles you loose a quart of oil or more, also i see is a 2001 calavler, look for oil leaks onthe engine, specially around the valve covers and see if you have any oil spots on your parking spots, one way to check is leave a piece of carboard under the car when you get home and check it the next day when you leave, you will find out if it leaks oil while park or you may loose it while you driving.

the second advise is maybe go to a thickher oil since you have a use car, and am sure you have high milage, choose the right oil to depending on the climarte an your milage,
like one of my cars the label said 5w-30 but was consuming too quick so I went to 10w30 lasted longer was thicker oil but the car gave me no problems all it does allows to lub the engine better
when the engine is new the oil is light, and when the engine gets high milage some ppl go to thicker oil to get better compression .

good luck leave some feedback!

I use 2 qt oil in 3000 miles in my 2006 envoy is

No it is not normal to lose two quarts,Have you seen any oil spots on the ground where you park your Envoy,
take a look under your Envoy to see if you have a small leak and the air from driving it is blowing the oil back towards transmission.

2005 gto burning oil. I happened to check it before getting oil changed at scheduled 5K interval nd realized I was down 2 quarts. It is not smoking or running bad so no symptoms to draw any conclusions...

Look on the ground where you park it. That much oil has to be a leak. Don't let it get 2 quarts down. Check it more often. Use thicker oil. Like 10-40 instead of 5-30. You could even try 20-50.

I lose 1-2 quarts of oil per week.

Yes , the white/blue smoke is sign of work piston rings, do a compression test on each cyliner to find out where thee problem is, you will need to change the rings
