Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

Van starts fine but wants to stall when at a stop light etc. I have changed the spark plugs and wires, had a complete tune up, and changed the fuel filter. If I keep my foot on the gas it does ok. Only seems to happen when the engine idles below 1000 rpms. Any ideas?

Check for vacuum hoses off at the rear of the upper intake manifold. Also check the large black tube from the air filter housing to the throttle body.Make sure it's on and the clamps are tight, and any hoses to it are connected. Is the check engine light on? If so,you might think about taking it to your local repair shop (someone you trust) and scan the vehicle computer for trouble codes.

Runs rough at idle when i drive it runs fine until i come to red light then it wants to stall. if it is idling it will stall to just bought it havent did any maintenance yet

Those El Caminos are nice. If you haven't done any maintenance, I would make sure that the oil is full, check and replace any bad carb. vacuum lines, check for any fuel, intake, vacuum, etc. leaks. Maybe check and replace spark plugs, wires, dist. cap + rotor, also check timing, etc. Good luck.

Check vacuum leaks , by spraying carburator cleaner around intake manifold gasket and vacuum hoses connections . See if engine picks up the idle speed while you doing it , and if it does , locate leak and fix it. Most common , intake manifold gasket brakes.

Rough idle and stalls

sounds like a bad idle air control valve, but if its misfiring thats another ball game, then you may have a bad spark plug or plug wire.when was the last time this car was tuned? if its been a while then you may what to start with a complete tune up, also have the fuel preasure check as this would also cause this problem but if it rides fine and only runs rough at idle then its not the pump.now we are back at a tune up.

93 chevy g20 van 15 seconds of turn over before it will start.

It sounds to me that you are in need of a Complete Tune UP. That is check the Fuel Pump, Change the Fuel Filter, Replace Spark Plugs, Wires, Cap and Rotor if so equipped and a general check that the Ignition Timing is advancing properly to specification as engine speed rises from Idle to Cruising RPM. Hard Starts are an indication of a number of things such as Inadequate Fuel, Weak Ignition components, Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires and other components in the Ignition system. I strongly suggest that you take your vehicle to an ASE Certified Mechanic that knows your specific Vehicle Brand and Model. Many Factory Service Bulletins are issued and chances are that several apply to your vehicles problems. Not knowing if you purchased it New and what service work has been performed over the years leads me to the conclusion that you need professional help. Any 16 Year Old Vehicle not performing properly needs professionally administered help.
