When hot, the oil is thinner, and the pressure is lower. You may need the trans rebiult.

Jag x type auto gearbox 05 reg wont go in gear til hot

Hi, are you able to drive the vehicle until it gets hot, or do you sit there and wait for the engine temp' to come up to the hot setting before you can select gear ? I suggest a Jag technician or auto sparky scan the computor for DTC's, or diagnostic trouble codes, they will enable a speedy resolution to your problem.

98 voyager 3.3 auto trans wont chande gears --seems to be staying in second gear --- hard to move from standstill --- engine temp light came on --- once transmission cools down it works ok til gets h

If you have been driving it, with it over heating as well as
low on fluid your pretty much done & will need a rebuild

If you just drove 10 miles-- then possibly you could have it
diagnosed & find a less costly solution- such as bad solenoids,
but I doubt it

Car wont start when hot

there's a host of things that would do that, one is your starter Bendix could be getting hot, when it cools your able to start again, but as I've said many things can do that , maybe a ignition module his breaking down when it gets hot. Mike j

Catilitic converter red hot now car wont start after its cooled 1996 cavilier

You should never drive a car with a red hot catalytic converter. If the catalytic converter is heater up to the point where it is that hot, it could be a serious fire hazard. Cars which might have a leak in a fuel line could be at a major risk for a fire or explosion if gas fumes come into contact with a catalytic converter in that condition. -----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Leonard, The first thing I suggest is to check the gear box oil level. If it requires topping up, fill the required amount. I also suggest draining and flushing the Automatic Transmission Fluid from the gearbox and inspecting for blockage between the gearbox and the radiator. After completing the physical inspections, have a diagnostic scan carried out on the electronic controls. Regards John

Wont start when hot until cool

Also, consider seriously about replacing the water pump. I have a friend with this exact car, and they had the same problem - the water pump was literally "gone" - when it was pulled and shown to me, I was amazed at the condition - this was the factory water pump and if you can picture what fan blades look like, imagine the fan without the complete blades - they were completely corroded and the pump was seized up - make sure you drive as little as possibe, as this friend had driven on it with the pump in that condition for months, which in turn caused a blown head gasket as well as several other mechanical problems.

Wont allways start got to play with gearshifter to start

Maybe the BENDIX DRIVE of you car's starter has worn out, try replacing it OR the RING GEAR (gear around the flywheel) has worn out, the BENDIX DRIVE of the starter is slipping. Try removing the ring gear and reverse it. When placing it again it wont probably fit, what you do is to heat the ring gear (metal expands when heated) when its hot place the ring gear on the fly wheel, it will be tight when cooled down.
When you,re playng the shifter the Flywheel is moving too, so when you play the shifter you are finding the good tooth of the gear to meet with the Bendix drive and start. hope this helps.

Dodge intrepid new solinoid still won't shift the gear to next.

I believe these models have a transmission temperature sensor. If the transmission gets to hot it puts the car into limp mode until it cools down. A faulty sensor may be your problem. Also you may consider installing a transmission fluid cooler. Most cars have the transmission lines routed through the radiator to cool the fluid but radiators get hot. You want to keep the fluid as cool as possible. Ask your local parts supplier about a transmission cooler. There like 30 bucks but can save you a rebuild later :)
