Question about 1998 Volvo V70

V70 engine stops shortly after starting

Hi, I have a 1998 20V V70. The car starts without any difficulty but after a minute or two the engine stops. It can be restarted immediately but the engine does not seem to run quite as smoothly after that. Can anyone give any clues to what might cause this?

V70 rpm high fluctuation at idle and engine stops

I would start by unplugging the throttle position sensor then start it and see if there is a change. Could also be the slow idle sensor or the crank position sensor? Have you looked that code up or had it computer checked? most the auto part stores here will let you use one in the parking lot hope that helps

My Hummer H2 2003 model had a problem starting when its warm. Like when I start it in the morning, its normal, but after driving it for a few minutes and the engine is warm, I had difficulty starting

I had this same problem with my 2003 H2, my mechanic found that the fuel diaphragm was cracked and this was allowing my truck to flood. If it was a cold start, the extra fuel would evaporate and it would start fine. It actually got to the point where I would stall at a stop light or stop sign at idle. The part was is the neighborhood of $175.00 and about 1 hour of labor to install.

FAn keeps running when car is shut off. It runs down the battery and wont start

There will be a sensor switch that switches the fan on and off, either on the radiator or close by maybe on the thermostat housing. you should find it by following the wires from the fan. Disconnecting the plug will stop the fan running, but your engine will get hot so watch your temp (you could connect a switch between the two connections on the disconnected plug as a temporary measure but replacing the switch should sort it out. If by chance the fan keeps running when the wire is disconnected from the switch its a short in the wiring. Oh, the fan will run on for a while after the engine is switched off but it should stop after about minute (once it has cooled it down) Check coolant level.

Car goes completely dead. Drove car for a while and after a short stop at the post office tried to start the car but completely dead. After about 10 minutes car it regained electrical and started again....

does goes completely dead mean it stops running while going down the steet or maybe only when you come to a stoplight? if it runs ok and just will not start as it sounds when you return after a short period of parking it.there are several oter things unclear.when you turn the key to start it do you hear the usual sounds like the engine is turning but it just wont run=one issue.if you hear nothing at all= dead baterry, loose connection in the wiring, bad starter. it sounds like the starter is working but the engine will not run.this could be a problem with the ignition system= computersystems =crank sensor. or fuel supply problems. nothins easy anymore. sorry.

Dear Volvo Tech Support, The dashboard clock on my V70-2002 Volvo runs forward un-controllable, every time I start the car. At this point I can not see the temperature gauge. The clock will stop randomly...

Youperhaps have used some dashboard-shine wich have gotten into the electronics and makes a sort of short Circuit there?
You may try to spray some degreaser in by the knobs before dismatling the entre dashboard and combi-instrument.
LEK-lube have a nice degreaser for electronics, but you may use any brand as long as it wanishes entirely (leaves no residues).

Difficulty starting after stopping for a short while

Without more input I'll give you two scenarios 1 the starter is showing signs of weakness and hen it gets hot it does not have the strength to spin the motor as it should. 2. The ignition timing needs adjusted, it may be advanced a bit and need retarding, especially with the low grades of fuel we are getting these days , you might try a higher grade of fuel or possibly an octane booster which you add when re-fueling.
Hope this is useful. Let me know please. gl...dc
