Flashing codes engine giving problem hooked computer to it and it flashed a few codes....po0410 po0449 po0452

It hasnt got a OBDII but i seem to remember a special plug under the bonnet ,then i gave up and changed a vacumn pipe to a sensor and it run like a dream

First of all, which cooling lines aren't hooked up and why not? Your engine computer uses temperature as part of it's program to determine how much fuel to give the engine so maybe the computer thinks the engine is cold. If it thinks the engine is cold it will add extra fuel to richen the mixture like a choke used to do.

Second, have you read the codes and what are they? Your car should be OBD1 which can be read without a machine. Under the dash near the steering wheel you should see a long skinny plug-in. It will have 2 rows of pins and 2 of them should be marked with an A and a B. Turn the key to the "on" position and put a ;iece of wire between the A and B. The engine light will begin to flash in a sequence of long and short flashs. The long flash is 10 and the short flash is 1. The first code you will get it 12. This says the computer is working. Then it will flash other codes. All your codes are 2 digit numbers and it will flash each code 3 time, so you will get 12,12,12,?,?,?,12,12,12. When it is done giving you codes it will flash the 12 again. To erase the codes, simply unhook the Negative battery cable for a minute or so.

Once you have the codes simply type "91 Cavalier engine codes" into your search engine and about 100 pages of sites will show up that will give you the code printout. Hope this helps.

you can not use your code reader on the 1994, it is not OBD II but is computer command control you dont need a code reader to retreve the codes all you need to do is turn the key on then off then on then off then on and the check engine light will start flahsing start countin the flashes the fires set is 10's the 2nd set is 1's

so a flash, flash, flash( = 30 ), 2 second pause, then flash, flash( =2), would = a code 32

Is that your check engine light? If so go get the code checked for free at a local auto parts store. Once you have the code that will tell you why it's flashing. On rare occasions those will sometimes just come on but more often than not something needs attended to. Auto Zone and Advance will hook a hand held computer up to it for free to let you know the code it's giving.

have your obd II CODES READ this will give you more of an idea what is going on with it. most auto parts stores read these codes. If you are smelling rubber check your serpitine belt for where and if it looks good take the belt loose and check the rest of the components that the serptine belt runs on altinator, water pump,powersteering pump, pully tensioner, other pullys ext.

depending on the year of this car, a flashing check engine light means a misfire, this may be due to a bad spark plug or the wires to plugs, you can go to any autopart store and they will scan the computer and give you an idea of the problem and give you the codes, what happens is the computer sees a problem and it turns the light on to warn you of the problem , it then stores a code, this code will tell you what part of the system is failing or failed. if you can give me the year ,make and model with the codes the autopart store gives you i can help you further, hope this is helpful. good luck.

You can either take it to Advance Auto - Auto Zone or Pep Boys as these 3 do systems checks.

Try taking down the VIN# - call a dealer and ask about recalls or Service Bulletins.

You need to get a scanner hooked up to see what error the computer has found. It will give a code. Some auto parts chain stores will do this for free.

take it to auto zone they will hook it up and give you the codes for what is wrong

reading codes is must to a engine with computers..if your light would flash 1 time then 3 this called code 13.. your only flashed 2 time could be code 11 or code 12 get on internet and look up the code... you can all so try to disconnect the postive side of the battery for 5mints.. this should clear any codes..hook battery back up..start engine if engine runs first time..you got a something in your ingction system that not working write..
