Question about 1998 Lincoln Continental

2 Answers

I have a 98 lincoln continental with automatic transmission, that is in good shape , runs well without any problems, while driving this evening, the car sudden acted liked it shifted into neutral, the engine runs fine and sounds ok, the car will not move though, forward or reverse, there has been no recent indication of a transmission problems, is this most likely a sensor problem or a transmission problem, Im going to have some one take a look at this, but would like to have an opinion, it just does not seems like this is a transmission problem but rather a computer or electrical problem

Check the fluid level and for a clogged filter in the trans. Is it making a buzzing noise like it's sucking air?

Not a sensor or solenoid problem.

The transmissions in these cars were the same as those in the far lower powered Ford Taurus, so they are prone to failure, sometimes without any warning. It could be a sensor or the planetary gearset could have failed. A transmission will run you around 2000 Dollars or so last time I checked so be prepared...

Where is the transmission solenoid located on a 98 lincoln continental

Your Continental is equipped with a TRANSAXLE, and I can think of four different solenoids, not including the internal shift solenoids, associated with the transaxle.
It may be better to describe what your ISSUE is, so that a diagnosis may be suggested for you.

When 1994 lincoln continetal is warm will not shift into second or reverse

The transmission is failing.
Check fluid for level and quality. If level is low, add transmission one pint (16 ounces) at a time until the level on the dipstick is correct. If the level is good but the transmission fluid is dark in color, tan in color, watery, or obviously burnt, start by having the transmission fluid and filter replaced.

I have a 1994 Lincoln Contenental. Car drives just fine in first gear but will not shift into second gear.

If it is an automatic check and make sure that you have enough automatic transmission fluid in the car to little fluid will not allow the transmission to shift.

Wont go into gear 97 lincoln continental

Unfortunately it sounds like your automatic transmission has suffered a catastrophic failure. But to be sure, allow your vehicle to warm up to normal operating temprature, pull the oil level dipstick for the transmission and check the level. It should be in the checker portion of the stick to be correct level. If it is not, adding fluid may help the condition temporarily. Check for leaks while the engine is running. Have Lincoln or transmission specialist have a look. When it comes to transmissions in general, it is best to let the pros handle it for youl
