Question about 1998 Lincoln Continental
Check the fluid level and for a clogged filter in the trans. Is it making a buzzing noise like it's sucking air?
Not a sensor or solenoid problem.

The transmissions in these cars were the same as those in the far lower powered Ford Taurus, so they are prone to failure, sometimes without any warning. It could be a sensor or the planetary gearset could have failed. A transmission will run you around 2000 Dollars or so last time I checked so be prepared...
