Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan
I got a 2000 dodge caravan 10 months ago with 250,000 KLM on it, every thing seemed to be working ok at the time while i made payments on it, but i only got to ride in it once
then after it was paid for i got it and I seen that the speed-odometer was not working now and didn't for 2 plus weeks, then the speed-O started working again, then the horn
stoped working for some time a little bit of time down the road, then it restarted working again also after a few weeks to a month or so not realy sure how long it was, my son
just pushed on it and it blew one day, now in the last months the speed-O will not work some times and i just have to shut it down and restart it and go on my way and all is fine,
i have an airbag light come on and off from time to time also, (then this bad time has hit me hard in it,and this is the problems and symtems) now then come halloween night i
parked the van in a safe place at my sons friends house knowing that it would not be bothered there, but when we got back in it after 2 1/2 to 3 hours we started down the road,
the speed-O was not working and the van was running like it was not getting any gas so i shut it off and restarted it, to only find it still didn't work i drove it a bit and
retryed the off and back on again and again still no speed-O but this time only it was running ruff like not taking gas right and not shifting gears, i reved it up some as i
thought that the fuel seemed to be blocked but the ENG light came on, so I knew it needed a battery so i got a new one and i had to get it boosted 1st to go get the battery and
the ENG light went off but down the road as it still will not change gears the ENG light came back on and it done the same thing after i took off the old battery and put on the
new one, so now i can not get it to change gears but it has at least now "tryed" to change and **** the 1st time that it's put in gear and starts to drive but it just jerks and
stays in the same gear and it only trys to change the one time only each time it's started and drove no more trys to change at all from that one try but it was not even trying
that one time before the van was boosted and the new battery was put on it, it also runs slugish, won't change gears and the speed-O will not restart working no matter how many
times it's shut down and restarted, this has stoped my driving now and i'm disabled with an 11 year old son and need my car "badly" but have very little cash so i need some one
that realy knows their stuff when it comes to things like this, the door locks will not lock when i start down the road now either but will work with the remotecontrol or the auto
lock when getting out of the van when i push the lock button down on the door, so it's not changing gears now or the speed-O will not work, but has done this before but the trany
always still changed anyway but now it will not, i know it has either some bad sensors or bad wireing in it some where but all in all this is the only time that it has been more
than just a light comming on or the speed-o stop working but the trany still worked but now it will not shift and didn't even try to change untill after i had to put the new
battery on it, it's kinda like a reset butten when you dissconect the battery cable and replace it back on it, but i need to know what has caused my trany to just stop changing
gears when the speed-O stoped this time and never has before. i'll send this in and see if anyone can help me in any way at all because my van is my life as far as being able to
get around, with out it, i'm stuck.
thank you to any one that answers my question and thanks for any help anyone can provide!!!
i now after about 5 times of drining it i tryed to hit 80 plus KLM/H and it finaly had the speed-O jump up to different numbers but no chaning of the gears and if i push it real
hard it will cause the speed-O to try to work for only a minute thin it goes back to 0 but jumps up to the peg at times while pushing it to see if it will change gears at a high
speed but it will not change gears but when i put it into Nuteral and the thing dies on me and when i start it back up while rolling down the road it will try to jump into gear
while in N so it dies some and it will not change gears and the speed-O has stoped all but a few times that it has tryed to work as talked of above and the ENG light stays on
untill i disconect the battery and re connect it back to the battery then it goes off for a bit but then comes back on and it has now started to try to change gears one time when
you 1st start it and start to drive but just jerks and stays in the same gear, when it dies and i have it out of gear and i start it while rolling in N it will try to go into gear
once also then goes into N as it should be in as that is where the shifter is at and when i stop the van and go to shut it down, as the gear shifter is put into P it only goes to
R until i take my foot off the brake then it jumps on up into the P poshion and it will not go down to the L either when i try to get it to change gears by useing it manuly, i
know it has wiring problems most likely but this trany not changing and the motor dieing some times now when i let off the gas the speed-O not working and ENG light on and the
door lock not working but only one time tonight from halloween night it locked the doors this one time after being pushed hard trying to get it to change gears but the door locks are not working either so that is
it i think, all it's symtoms, i think this is (i think) all from one problem that is causing these things all to be not working at this time. anyone help me PLEASE???
if you need any more info please let me know and i'll call you or send an e-mail address to you or any way that you want to contact me by or me contact you by i ment.
Thank you to anyone and everyone!!!!! (PLEASE HELP-PLEASE !!!) ( Please and Thank You !!! ) Thank You again and again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a bad vehicle speed sensor. To be sure take it to your local Advance Auto Parts store and they will hook it up and tell you what the trouble at no charge. Thanks and good luck with your repairs.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the post, i was told that it was the output speed sensor and now you have pretty much told me that they are most likely right about this"
Sorry to hear money is tight, but i think this will be cheaper for you in the long run to have the dealer run a diagnostic on it. i suspect this is going to get expensive quickly and may not be worth while. sorry!
