My 2005 pontiac grand prix engine is always overheating and we can not find out what is causing the problem

it is a v6 engine, and when i start it, it only takes about twenty minutes before the temperature to reach the highest piont where it notifies that the engine is overheating. I recenlty had the thermostate changed and the fans are turning on when the temperature rises.I also had the radiater taken off and flushed, seems to be in good condtion. Not shure what else to look for.

OKAY WHEN ENGINE OVERHEAT DOES COOLANT OR STEAM BOIL OUT OVERFLOW JUG.BECAUSE WHEN ENGINE OVER HEATS THAT ONE THING THAT IT DOES.WHAT I MEAN YOUR COOLANT GAUGE COULD BE FAULTY.THE ONLY WAY TO TELL IS HOOK CAR TO A DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER AND SEE WHAT THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR IS SHOWING YOU COOLANT.TEMPERATURE SHOULD BE 190F TO 200F IF SHOWING 230F UP TO 260F IT IS TOO HOT. YOUR WATER PUMP GOING BAD ALSO RADIATOR CAP COULD BE FAULTY. OR THE COOLANT SYSTEM WAS NOT BLEED TO REMOVE AIR OUT SYSTEM.YOU HAVE MORE WATER THAN COOLANT IN SYSTEM.IT SHOULD BE 50/50 OF EACH.

Most the time the cause for an engine to run out of it's normal range is due to electronic sensor failure.
If your engine is not mixing the exact air to fuel this will cause operating temperature problems. If you have maintained the car well you should look into the sensors such s as knock, MAF, and oxygen.
If one of these is bad the engine could run lean which would cause extreme combustion tempts and frequent, fast, overheating.
Many times I have customers replace cooling system parts unnecessarily. Modern engines have a very small window of which they will run as designed without fault and passing emission standards.

Perhaps your airconditioning condensor fins are severely smashed, and therefore not allowing air to flow through the condensor and then through the radiator.

If ur radiator is good and u checked ur fans, they work, take off ur thermostat. run ur car with no thermostat and see what happens. if it overheats than take it to the shop.

Does it always start back for you. Doesn't matter if it is 20mph or 50mph? If so, it may be a MAP sensor.

How much does it cost to fix a water pump in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix.

The price of the water pump depends on which engine you have in your car. There are three different size engines for a 2005 grand prix. If your not going to do the work yourself, I cant give you an acurate quote as all mechanics charge differently. You'll just have to go to differend mechanics and get some quotes.

Abs and traction control light faults after a brake job. 2005 Pontiac grand prix

You have a bad sensor at one of the tires that need replacing that operates ABS and traction control. If you take it in to a shop it will run $130 but they can find which sensor is causing the problem. But if you do it you might have to replace all 4 sensors to make sure you got the right one. Every hard to diagnoses. Its better for the shop cause they can get electrical read outs for each sensor.
