Question about 1998 Saturn SL

2 Answers

My 1998 Saturn SW2 starts when the engine is cold and runs well. But if I stop somewhere, the engine won't even turn over (just clicks as I turn the ignition switch) until it has cooled down a bit. Then it fires up again. Any suggestions?

Check your electrical connections at the battery and at the starter. a build up of corrosion will cause a high resistance, which gets even worse when its hot.

Overheating starter possibly. If possible find a way to have a system test done at a parts store.

1998 1.9l dohc sw2 car will start when cold but not when hot starts fine after it cools down

When the vehicle is hot, does the Starter turn the engine over? If not, your starter is being affected by Heat soak, and you must replace the starter. If the starter does turn over the engine, you have a sensor that is failing due to heat soak, or your ECM is failing when hot. This is much more difficult to diagnose since each sensor will have to be monitored to find the faulty sensor.

My 1998 Saturn Sw2 Wagon makes a loud noise in the morning when it is cold. I noticed a slack in the belt what should I do?

Sounds like the belt is slipping.

Some autos have belts that can be tightened by loosening bolts and moving various vehicle components that are hooked to the belt. Others have automatic tensioners that control belt adjustment. I am not familiar with Saturns. If it has a belt tensioner, this is probably a job best left to a professional.

1998 Saturn SW2, 180,000+ miles. Recent starting problem.

It does sound like an electrical issue.  Double check if the ground connections are all OK.  You may have to check out the wirings, even the wiring loom if all wires are still OK.

Starting problem with 1998 Saturn SW2

Ok I know that Coolant Temp Sensors are very very Common to Saturns, Only buy the Parts at saturn they are Calibrated Parts. Aftermarket do not work well.
You could have a work starter bendix Drive or a worn Flywheel that is causing the crackling sound you hear, To be totally honest I need to hear the sound to tell you for sure. If this information is good please Give me a Fixya! Rating and if there is anything more I can do for you please contact me .
