You will need to jack up the RR corner of the vehicle to reach it. The fuel filter is fastened with a big clamp to the right side frame rail, close to the fuel tank, just ahead of the RR wheel.

Use a small flat screwdriver to remove the two plastic clips from the lines attached to the filter. Be careful, the lines are under pressure, and there will be fuel that will spray out as you unplug the lines from the filter.
Use a flat screwdriver to loosen the clamp from the body of the filter and then you can remove and replace the filter.
Install the new plastic line clips that are in the box with the filter into the lines and then plug the lines onto the filter until you hear them click in place.

How to change feul filtter

it can be done with out special clamp tools if you know what your doing. I suggest getting the clamp tool they are really cheap and you can't hurt anything. The tool looks like an X with rounded half cups on each end until squeezed together then they form a full cup. At any rate that tool will unlock the pressure fuel lines and the will slide off of the filter. when the old filter is out of the way put the new one in and press the lines back onto it

My 2001 Kia Optima will start but will not stay running longer than about 6 seconds.

The most likely problem is the fuel pump, which will need to be replaced.

On some occasions, this is caused by a clogged fuel filter. Replace this part first, and if you are one of the "Fortunate Few", your Kia will be fine after you change it. This is the cheapest fix, so try it first and see what happens. A fuel filter will run under 20 bucks in most cases.

If you DO need to change the fuel pump, make sure you buy a decent one, and not a super-cheap ($17-25) one online, because it will probably **** out on you after about 1000 miles. Look around the 80 dollar mark. To have a mechanic do the job, always get an estimate first. You are probably looking at between $175-200 to have a new fuel pump installed.

How do I change my fuel filter? 1999 Taurus, 3 liter

I would purchase a GOOD service manual at the auto supply house for your make model and year and it will tell you what tools you need so you can purchase them while you are there and it will tell you step by step the procedure.... But if I am not mistaken your fuel filter on that year make and model is in the frame under the driverside door, I could be wrong as Ford puts them in the frame in many different locations on different makes and models, but I am pretty sure you will have to buy a specialized tool at the auto supply house to take the fuel line off I had to have it to remove and change the Fuel filter on my 1998 Ford F-150 Titan V-8.
I hope that my advice helps you out please do not forget to rate/vote or/and place a testimonial...

Need to change fuel filter

You have to buy a special tool, Ford Fuel Filter Removal tool. The filter is located on the driver side frame rail, back towards the gas tank. Slide the tool over the fuel line and push it into the end of the filter, then pull the line out. Make sure you have the flow pointing in the right direction when you put the new one on.

Gas filter located Under back right side of car just under the right rear door. Should only take about 10 to 20 mintues to change out.
2 Types

1. One has 2 plastic clips that can be pulled out and gas line slides off. Then unscrew worm clamp (radiator clamp) pull filter out and put new one in make sure the arrow is pointing to motor.

2. The second has what are, or some call line connect which you will need a gas line separator tool. Any parts store will have it cost, about $7.00 - $10.00 for the set. Slide the right one around the gas line and push All the way in at the same time pull the gas line until it slides off the filter. Reinstall filter and push the lines on until the click.

Do I need a special tool to change a 2005 Excursion fuel filter?

I changed the fuel filter in my 04 explorer last week. You to need a special tool, it is just a little plastic tool that you slide onto the fuel line to release the clips holding the line onto the filter. If you know what your doing and have easy access to the filter, and most enjoy doing the work then buy the tool and change the filter. By the way the tool ranges from $5 to $20, depending on what the part store has on their shelves.
