Non-california emission O2 sensor for other 49 states

Can I fix Non-California Emission O2 sensor for my car since I am not living in California? My car's O2 sensor has California Emission ESV.

  • Anonymous Nov 12, 2009

Thanks. My OBD code shows P0135. So I believe I should go after this and change Heated O2 sensor not the wide band O2 sensor(A/F Sensor). Am I right?

The 02 sensor is still the same you can buy a AFTER MARKET 02 heated 02 sensor and still keep it leagle. Their are other things it will effect like fuel mileage and later on unburnt fuel cause of a non working 02 sensor will create other problems like pre-igntion and carbon build up will cause it to knock and run like ****. But it won't harm it in the short term.

California illegal catalytic converter ford expedition 2003

Because the cat that is approved for California is "finer tuned" than the other 49 states. California emission standards are the toughest in the country, so many engine and emission parts are made just for those standards.

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4.3L 4x4. Found out that my catalytic converters are plugged and truck will barely run. My question is my 2001 Jimmy is emission standard to California. That is why it has two cats...

I will suggest if you ever drive it to California, unless you comply with their rules it won't be legal. However if you're a legal resident in another state, abide by their rules u should be ok. Again this is not legal advice, it's a suggestion.

Will an engine bought from a 1999 Silverado originally sold outside of California pass California emissions

There are two type of emission classes.

Federal and California emissions.

Look under the hood for the emission class sticker.
Smog check station's machine in CA are programmed to handle both types.

You do not need to change anything before the inspection.

==== Side notes: You should check the service record for the last Catalytic converter,O2 sensors and EGR valve change.
Service interval for
Catalytic ~180,000 miles O2 ~150,000 miles EGR ~160,000 miles

If you can locate the last smog test (even from out of state) Check for the
CO NOx
