Check your battery if it is still good. Otherwise, have it replaced. If your battery is good, check your alternator and regulator if this is working. With your engine running check the voltage at the battery terminals. It should read between 13 to 14.5 volts. This is the standard charging voltage at the battery terminals. If the reading is only 12v, try adjusting the regulator to 14volts. However, if it can no longer be adjusted, have your alternator repaired or replaced. After you have things checked, repaired, or replaced then, you can start your car running again.
Fix one problem at a time. Start with the battery first. You need to find out what is going on. Is it a draw, could it be a trunk or glove-box light? Is the battery at 100%.? Check to see if there is a short within the cars wiring. After that is fixed it may take care of the other issues.
You definitely have a drain/short somewhere. I recommend that you look in the yellow pages under autoelectric shops. These shops have scanners that can often locate the problem so they or you can resolve it. good luck.

My 2001 Chevrolet 3.8 LS Impala will lose power while travelling down the road. In addition if it does not restart right away it smells of gasoline and will roll but not restart, however after letting it set for a period of time it will restart.
