SOURCE: transmission linkage

Did you take the linkage right off at the transmission ? If not, then don't !! The shaft can drop down & something internally happens, that requires removal of pan etc to put it back.

adjustment may work but replacing all plastic bushes will be advisable before trying for adjustment.

I have a 2002 Saturn Vue it started becoming more difficult to change gears, and now, It is stuck in first gear, I replaced the gearshift cable adjuster, STILL stuck in 1st gear. HELP!

Could be master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, or bad clutch. There is a plastic piece at the end of the clutch or shifter linkage that often fails at the transmission.
Can you see the shifter linkage from under the vehicle or interior under console to determine if the linkage is physically connected?

My 1984 S10 won't shift into fwd. also the button on top of fwd shift knob is stuck down

The shift linkage bushings and the Shift lever bushings are probably worn. Adjustment of linkage and shift lever is probably needed. If this is beyond your DIY capacity, I'd take to a competent Transmission shop. Or purchase a repair manual from your auto parts store. You will want it again soon anyway if you are a DIYer. filepeep.com may have the manual, or try manualslib.com

Stuck in low gear

If you have a push button you may have broken the vacum line that controls the transfer case. It is on top so hard to get to but a cheep fix.
If you have a floor shift when you were stuck you may have a damaged the linkage. The linkage can be adjusfed to shift in gear. You may need to get new linkage.

'95 Chevy S10 stuck in first gear

I think the shift linkage is all internal so if you can get the shifter pulled out of the top of the trans through the floor, you can probably realign the linkage to a neutral position and reinstall shifter.
There may be something worn or broken that caused it or just one of those fluke happenings.

1984 Jeep CJ7, Gear shifting / Linkage problem

likely the shift rails are worn inside the trans. In changing shift, you have removed the wear on the end of the stick, but not the corresponding wear where the stick fits into. It will need to be taken apart to repair this. (would not hurt to have synchros replaced at the same time.) OR, replace transmission if you have an inexpensive one available.
