Problem for Oldsmobile 1996 Cutlass Ciera
Intermittant p0302,p0305 codes misfires
I have a 96 ciera, 77k, flood damage , sat for 2 yrs after flood damage,when i got it, repaired all the needed items to get road worthy, ran excellant for approx 3000 miles , when the 1st p0302 code came,it was intermittant, one day misfire next day fine, my other car is 96 buick century same 3100 sfi v6, i exchanged coils wires and plugs to my car, no problem, so that is eliminated, i cleared code ran fine for a day, now a p0305 cylinder5 misfire , runs like its on 5 cylinders, no p0302 code thinking maybe injectors or some sort of connection to them? any ideas

A code P0305 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
· Faulty spark plug or wire
· Faulty coil (pack)
· Faulty oxygen sensor (s)
· Faulty fuel injector
· Burned exhaust valve
· Faulty catalytic converter(s)
· Running out of fuel
· Poor compression
· Defective computer
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires , distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad, especially given you had water issues. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced.
