timing belt snaps. Valves broken and hit pistons. Q:There is an opening at the bottom of the engine block near the 4th cylinder looking from the crankcase ends. Is it designed opening or broken hole.

if you look down the opening with a small light/mirror can you see inside the engine? is there oil splattered around the opening?

Its hard to know what "HOLE" you are referring to? You should be able to tell a cast or machined hole from a engine destoying hole. If its a "punched out" hole and you can see into the engine, the engine is trashed. You may be able to find a good used engine from a salvage yard.
