Try bleeding the hydraulic clutch, if still not disengaging a new clutch cyl is needed or a rebuild kit can be used..use dot3 fluid

1991 Toyota 4WD 5 spd manual: It grinds when I try to put it in 3rd gear.

no body told, the "pickup" land cruiser, or 4runner, what?
3 CAUSES (MORE IN DETAILS)
1, MC/slave bad, 2:clutch bad. ,3: synchro ring bad.
gear lube full and clean right, ??????
toss dice land on
"pickup"
toss again land on 2.4L engine
it has mc/slave.

1-CLUTCH IS BAD AND DRAGS,
OR MASTER SLAVE BAD TO IT.
GRINDS. MOVING OR PARKED.? or both/?????????
ONE CAN SHIFT TO ANY GEAR YOU WANT PARKED, CLUTCH PEDAL HELD TO FLOOR. shift all gears parked foot to floor clutch
1,2,3,4,5,R etc.
or only grinds on the fly
2 > N .>3
if yes, the 3 gear synchro worn out or its ring cracked.
reverse is the canary gear, no syncrho on it.
and love to grind, any time the clutch drags for any reasons
you do know what drags means?
the clutch pedal , down causes the PP to release the disk 100%
and not drag at all, (example a cracked disk)
the car has MC and slave
and the MC has reservoir, is the clutch fluid going down each weak or worse.
if fluid drops or seen dry the mc/slave is bad, a very happy thing that. as it is a simple job not 10 hours labor.

causes of drag so many , and did them all me. my hands
mc/slave , endless times. (never assume it is good ,prove it)
bad through out bearing collapsed.
bad disc cracked. or warped.
bad PP pressure plate, cracked or warped or springs bad.
flywheel pilot bearing seized or partally
transmission front main input shaft splines galled, and makes disc hub stick, and not slide smoothly.

Transmission will move into 2nd gear but when releasing the clutch it grinds, all other gears shift fine

classic manual transmission clutch failure but is 99% of the time
the clutch MC and slave leaked out all the Dot3 fluid
or went dry and not put back fresh and BLED , putting air bubbles there. this will result in CHAOS, random shift results.
no car told no miles on car told.
2nd gear loves to fail first in the city the insane ,1>2 shift
wears out the 2nd gear synchro ring a $15 part. (fixed many me)
are your sure Reverse never grinds or balks??????

if have see to that the cracked disc inside drags just a bit.
and this tiny drag (normal is zero) cause he most worn synchro fail
and grinds.
are you always topping off the clutch MC reservoir? with DOT3> brake fluid
make sure the correct gear lube is in the box. GL3/4 ? and correct viscosity, thicker is better for worn synchro rings.
if MC fluid is good
try first spec, gear lube. (do not guess learn what the car needs)
no car told.

How do I fix my car having problems shifting into first gear?

I'm assuming that this is a manual transmission.
Old truck drivers trick...... Push in the clutch just as you try to put it into gear. If you do it too soon, it may make a grinding noise. Practice..... Thr trick is to have the transmission just barely rotating as you're grabbing the gear. Older vehicles can develop shifting issues as the synchro rings get worn. Pretend you're a trucker and feel the shift happen.

Hard shifting manual transmission - warm/hot

check the clutch operation especially the m/cylinder for failure. The fluid and the master cyl. is probably not disengaging the clutch enough. the rears will not necessarily grate as the synchros are working overtime to spin the gears for alignment because the clutch shaft is still moving under power from the engine.

1999 escort manuel tranny wont shift into third gear all others are fine

sounds like the synchro went bad for 3rd gear. if all other gears work fine, i would suspect the synchros inside the transmission are starting to fail.

2002 saturn vue, manual shifting problems

You have a slave cylinder for this trans. Pump the clutch pedal 25 times with the engine OFF. Then start it and try shifting it into each gear while parked. If this make it work your slave cylinder needs to be replaced

High level brake light not working

check light connector under boot for power getting to light, if there is power then replace light and if no power then you have to trace wire from connector back until you find power loss
