Just unbolt the yoke from the rear end and pry the u-joints out of their seats.Do it a little at at time from both sides or the cups will fall off.Throw some tape around them as soon as you get them out of the housing.Get a plastic bag and cover the end of the transmission as soon as you slide the yoke out of the trans or you'll be swimming in oil.If you like to mark your yoke for orientation do it now. There's 2 kinds of u-joints,one uses snap rings, the other is injected with plastic around the cups. You'll see little plastic bumps on the yoke in line with the cups and no snap rings for the later. The easiest way for the plastic ones is to use heat, those $15 propane torches at the store work well.A lighter does'nt get hot enough and a cutting torch gets too hot, so use the cheap propane.Heat up one pair on cups at a time,it stinks pretty bad and I'm sure it's not good to breathe so don't do it on Mama's kitchen table. When you think the plastic is gone support the yoke on a wood block just below the joint and knock it straght thru with a socket.Only one cup will come out the other end, remove the cup and drive the joint back the way it came to remove the other cup.Repeat for all joints. To reassemble remove the cups from the new joint, put hte joint between the ears and slip both cups back into their sockets.Warning, you drop the cups and needle bearings will go everywhere.Use a C-clamp or vice to push the cups back into the yoke sockets. If you can't get the cups all the way in put a socket on the cup to recess it into the yoke. When you can see the grove inside the yoke where the cup is put in your snap ring .Flip it over and finish pushing in the other cup.Install snap ring and your grease zerk.Don't grease it until fully installed or you'll blow the caps off.Repeat for all joints-NOTE:if the cups won't go all the way in you have a needle bearing that's fallen down inside the cup,so you have to tear the joint apart to fix it.Reinstall the drive shaft, grease it.If you can't get to the Zerk's you have to turn the drive shaft until they are visible.Top of the transmission and your done!
Do not attempt to replace the constant velocity joint on your own. It requires special u-joints and a hardware kit for beginners, and if the joint isn't reassembled perfectly then you will have an awful vibration. **** it up an sent it out to a drive-shaft shop. If you insist that you are going to do it yourself, well, good luck.
