I also have a '97 wrangler. the door lock started sticking about a year later. When my lock sticks, I push hard on the door with either my hands or shoulder right around the lock area. Pushing the door inwards. After a couple of good shoves, the door lock is freed up. I notice that the lock will stick if I try to open the door without using the key when the door is locked ( forgot it was locked ) 95% of the time, this will make the lock stick. Couple hard pushes later, the lock will un-stick. good luck.

Pull the inside panel off ,and look at the latch itself, that latches the door, and look for the lever that locks the latch,it will be sticking out of the latch, and try and release the lock by moving the lever.

SOURCE: Drivers door can not be unlocked from outside the car

Take the driver door panel off and look at the back side of the lock and see if the arm is attached sounds like it might have come off and is not locking the lock device anymore. thanks Jerry holler if you have more.

SOURCE: 1997 Jetta Drivers side door will not open.

One thing... If your last 3 doors works fine it's mean that problem is only in your drivers side. In VW like nickalxjoe wrote is air pump. So there might be an air leaking which you can hear. So if you can hear from where air running out try to fix this first.

Why will my drivers door not open, even though it locks and unlocks with key fob.

Sounds like the activator rod that goes from the door Handle to the latch is disconnected. You will have to get the door open to repair it and a good mechanic or tow truck driver can use a slim Jim kit to get the latch to release and then you can pull the door panel and find the problem.

2006 passat drivers side door locks wont open from outside when unlocked using fob

It sounds like you might have two door latches that are faulty.... But you can try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect to see if that solves it. Sometimes VW's need their memory reset, have seen weird problems happen and this fixes it a lot of the time.

I changed my battery and when i did, the antitheft just started making my lights go on and off, and i try to crank it but its like im not getting power to the engine!

the anti theft is working! try manually locking your doors, then wait 15 minutes, unlock the doors with key, the last door you should lock is drivers. lock all doors from inside but drivers, when you shut drivers door, lock it from outside with the key.leave it alone for about 15 minutes please! when you unlock it with the key, if the alarm goes off, disconnect the battery for 10mins. then start over, just remember to lock the driverside door from outside this time with the key!!!

Driver door

The rods in the drivers door probably came off.
Somehow you got to take the door panel off from the inside and look.
