1998 Monte Carlo will not shift out of Park

- Yes, I am pushing down the brake pedal. When I push the button in on the gear shift handle it is just like I am not pushing the brake pedal down though. I checked the switch down by the brake pedal that activates when you push the brake pedal down and it seems to work as far as the piece goes in and out when the brake pedal is pushed and released. After maybe 10 or 15 minutes all of a sudden the button will push in and it will work. I think that there is a Solenoid in the gear shift handle that is maybe not working when I try to press the button in on the gear shif handle. However, I don't know how to check this or get the handle apart to see how to change it. Any suggestions.
