U need a basic code reader for the pre OBD 2 (u have OBD 1) system, here is a link to a $25.00 reader that will work.

It is OBDI and any shop worth going to will have what is needed to do the job.
Or goto your local parts store and buy a scan tool for about $50.

Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at https://www.6ya.com/expert/sean_54c3a3dc48a7773c

Engine check and VSC popping up on my 2007Toyota Sienna dashboard, how do I get rid of these?

Unfortunately you can't get these to go out until the issue causing them to come on is addressed. I'll trll you how to find out! You'll certainly need to check it out further(or have it checked further by someone who is a professional- that doesn't always mean someone doing it for a living in s garage either as I no longer do but did for many years and still do it all regarding my vehicles and equipment along with everyone's that I know. I didn't mean to get off track but that's something to think about, people like me will save you big bucks $$$, mechanically friends are useful. Thus "Professional" will need a diagnostic scanner, a good one, the parts stores can likely help with engine light, but a more specialized diagnostic scanner will probably be necessary for your second issue. This is likely to be found at a well Equipped local garage or repair shop, and of course the dealer will have this if no one else does.

Ask friends and family, co-workers, or whoever you trust if they know a professional technician and perhaps they'll know someone capable or at least have a few good suggestions. Look in the local business pages or online reviews for local shops, a Toyota or Imported Car Specialist would be a huge plus but not absolutely necessary.

If this helped you in any way please let me know by clicking the Green "Helpful" Icon as that's the best indication to me that I'm doing my part to be helpful. Leave a review or follow me as I answer auto, mechanical, & technical questions of all kinds. Thanks and have a Great Day!

My daughters 1996 Nissan Maxima stalls on her when leaving a stop. The engine light is on too. We took it in the shop they put it up on the machine but found nothing. Just wondering if it could be her

Greg, if the check engine light is on there will be a diagnostic code set in the cars on-board computer. This code, or codes, need to be retrieved using a scan tool. Some shops/parts retailers will check your codes for free. Your daughter's year of Maxima are known for bad mass air flow sensors. When these sensors go bad they cause stalling, erratic acceleration and general rough running.

That is a Manufacture Code we don't have

Don't know who clears the check lamp, but
that doesn't do any thing other than remove
the codes needed for a repair shop to find &
resolve the problems

Maxima 1995 30g auto v6 3000 engine cranking but not starting starter motor ok ring gear ok could it be a fuse or relay

Hi,

Do not replace anything, until you have your vehicle's diagnostic codes (OBD) read.

It's possible the crank or camshaft sensor faulty, but your on board diagnostic computer will identify the likely cause.

Your local dealership (or authorised agent who has proper scan tool) will be able to read the codes for you and will not take more than 15 mins.

Alarm set will not reset. I was riding down the street and it just shutdown and the van has not cranked since the rpm and the temp gage stopped working at the same time

Hi,

My name is Ben and I'm your guru, i.e., mentor, an influential teacher or popular expert: a management guru. - origin from Sanskrit, 'weighty, grave' for today.

As you evaluate my advise. solutions and suggestions, there are a few things you must keep in mind:

• I did not diagnose your problem and am therefore only able to evaluate what you tell me. For example, if you ask me a fuse location, that doesn't mean that I can tell you the reason why the fuse blew. I can only react to the information that you provide. So please judge my suggestions accordingly.
• A thorough diagnostic approach involves the use of technical equipment, such as voltage meters. scanning equipment and other sophisticated devices. Diagnostic tools can be borrowed from AutoZone for FREE:
• Lastly, fixing one problem can very easily reveal a problem with something that you might consider unrelated. If that happens, you might want to view me as being incompetent. Just remember that I can only respond to exactly what you tell me.

Your description of the problem: Alarm set will not reset. I was riding down the street and it just shutdown and the van has not cranked since the rpm and the temp gage stopped working at the same time

Please don't even think about trying to disarm your anti-theft system because there is an easier solution. I'm assuming that you don't have the full Shop Service Manual. If you do, then you know that a shop manual costs at least $100.

So why did I say: Don't even think about it? Your anti-theft device is capable of causing problems that you don't want to deal with. If you have the dealer do the job, the cost can be prohibitive. The anti-theft device tells the on-board computer to shut off the fuel flow and to disengage the starter circuitry.

SOLUTION: Go on eBay and buy an anti-theft bypass module for $10-$20 depending on the year and make of your vehicle.

As for you other problems, please read on.

A Scan Tool can be used to read and erase trouble codes, display, record and play back LIVE diagnostic data and perform other tests allowed by the vehicle maker. Scan tools that cover vehicles 1982 to present are available at your local auto supply dealer.

A Code Reader can be used to read and erase diagnostic trouble codes as well as other additional features depending on the tool. These tools work on all vehicles 1996 and newer.

A Code Scanner reads diagnostic trouble codes generated by the vehicle's system. Codes are displayed on the vehicle's dashboard and/or identified through audio prompts. These products work with 1981-1995 vehicles.
You don't indicate any diagnostic tests to date. A dealer or your local mechanic will charge $100-$200 to perform a diagnostic scan. However, AutoZone will provide a thorough scan for FREE.

All the best

How to install a throttle position sensor NISSAN XTERRA

First off I wasn't sure as to which engine you had in your vehicle as there is a 2.4 or a 3.3 liter engine for your vehicle for that year. I gave you some details on the 3.3 liter. I don't want to sound negative but Nissan's are basically dependant on its sensors which in turn send signals to the ECM which makes all of the adjustments as to how everything runs. If you do not have the proper equipment for diagnostic procedures it is difficult to get it correct but can be done. Even after you set the throttle position sensor (TPS) you need to reset the TPS idle position memory and then check the timing/idle mixture ratio and make any adjustments there if needed. I can do my best to try and walk you through it with details directly from the factory service manual and even can make you up a PDF of it if you want with ways to go around not having the diagnostic equipment. Also write if you have the 2.4 because the little bit of information I gave you below is only for the 3.3 liter engine. Again I'm not trying to sound negative to you and I believe I can walk you through it but it's not like just pulling a part & replacing it when it comes to your vehicle in order to get it done correctly.

Why wont my 1995 nissan pathfinder go into reverse? The transmission does not slip when in drive.

It will soon. The loss os reverse is the first sign that something internal is wrong and other failures will soon follow. It needs to be taken to a local, trusted transmission shop or get one from a local salvage yard with a warranty. If you wish to do this yourself and need instructions, let me know.

Check engine light is on

Unfortunately it can be many thing causing your engine light to go on. Cars from 1996 and up have the newer On Board Diagnostics (OBD2) and can check engine light codes with a simple reader. Since your car is a 95 you will have to take it to a shop to check what might be causing the light to go on.

The engine seems to have oil, but the light is on in my 1995 nissan altima

The oil light means you have low oil pressure but not necessarily low oil.
Low oil pressure can lead to serious engine problems and should be fixed right away.
