Is it possible to remove and clean fuel injectors

By whitlock_kay on Nov 09, 2009

Having a fuel delivery problem. The fuel pump works, and I replaced the fuel filter and seems to be getting fuel up to the injectors. Very difficult to start and if it does start it will only drive a short distance and then cut out.

As a quick test, fill your tank BUT DO NOT TOP OFF.

If the fuel deliver problem disappear and re-surface at around 1/3 of the tank then you are having a weak/failing fuel pump.

Also do not top off the tank when you refuel.

The excess gas can soak the emission EVAP canister and cause stalling problem.

This could be a number of problems, I would start by checking to make sure that the exhaust is not plugged. If the catalytic converter is plugged it will create back pressure that can cause stalling and or poor engine performance. Be careful the gases coming from the exhaust system are not good for you and they are hot. Don't burn yourself checking it out. Sometimes you can hear a hissing sound as pressure slowly reduces in the system. It could also be a plugged injector, they are expensive to replace and harder to diagnose. This would be my guess if it starts hard. A mechanic should have a computer to plug into the vehicle and it should give you a better idea of what's wrong. Most dealerships will charge you an hours labor to hook up and check for you.
