Ford Windstar 2003, 90,000 miles Occasionally, when going slow in a parking lot or entering my driveway, when I brake , the car accelerates and lurches forward. The brake will hold it back, and eventually it decelerates. It has done this 4 or five times in the last year. This seems very dangerous and I need to get it fixed. Any ideas?
THE 1ST THING U NEED TO DO IS HAVE A TROUBLE CODE TEST (U WILL NEED TO BUY AN OBD 2 SYSTEM CODE READER) RUN ON THE SYSTEM TO SEE IF ANYTHING HAS SET A CODE TO EXPLAIN THIS, THE MOST COMMON CAUSE IS A STICKING AUTOMATIC IDLE SPEED CONTROL MOTOR DUE TO WEAR AND SLUDGE, DO THE FOLLOWING IF THE TROUBLE CODE TESTS SHOWS NO CODES. FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW FOR CLEANING THE INTAKE AND AUTOMATIC IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE. Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
