My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is having issues going into and out of 4wd. There is a metal ticking or clunking sound coming from the transfer case. We just replaced the chain and the main fork that moves the gear that puts it in 4wd about 11,000 miles ago. It sounds as if a gear is not fully engaging, but upon looking at all the teeth on all the gears, they all look good, no noticeable wear. everything looks normal, but when I engage the 4wd, it clunks and grinds, eventually going into 4wd. Once it goes into 4wd, if any substantial amount of load is applied, like pressing the brakes while giving it some gas, it still clunks and grinds.
