put half litre of oil in car 12hours ago now reading hardly any on dip stick.1997 corolla 1.4xli .outside of oil filter dirty with oil residue.

filter may not be tight enough ,try tighten it up a bit and see if this helps

Hi Davie,

I guess the question is how much was in it before adding the oil?

Additional symptoms if any would narrow things down.

Is it leaving oil spots when parked?
Blowing smoke? What color, if it is?

Describe the oil on the dipstick?

Check the coolant?

How does it start? Run?

That sort of thing.
