- My owners manual specifically spells out numerous times that DEX-COOL has to be used. Not sure what your reasoning is for NOT using Dex-cool? Can you explain

COOLANT CHANGEON THE RADIATOR (LOWER DRIVERS SIDE FACING THE MOTOR) THERE IS A PLASTIC LIKE PLUG THAT YOU TURN COUNTER CLOCKWISE ABOUT 3/4 OF A TURN, THEN YOU CAN PULL IT OUT ABOUT 1/2 AN INCH THIS WILL DRAIN THE RADIATOR, THEN YOU CAN PUSH THE PLUG BACK IN AND TURN IT UNTIL YOU FEEL IT LOCK BACK IN PLACE. REFILL RADIATOR WITH 3 PARTS COOLANT TO 1 PART WATER. 1998-'99 Intrigues equipped with the 3800 engine have a specific process for replacing antifreeze. It is somewhat of a lengthy process and you should refer to your owners manual for doing this. After you empty and flush your system with water (garden hose), only fill the system with green 50/50 antifreeze, NOT Dex-Cool. Avoid Dex-Cool. If you bring your Intrigue to a shop to get serviced, make sure and inform whoever doing repairs and/or leave a note (clearly visible) to NOT use Dex-Cool if they're doing any work pertaining to cooling system.

- You shouldn't mix Dex-Cool and Ethyl-Glycol coolants. They function in fundamentally different ways. Cars that originally had Dex-Cool work just fine when that coolant is completely flushed out and replaced with Ethyl-Glycol. There are millions of cars on the road that have done this.
Dex-Cool does last longer than Ethyl-Glycol but when it goes bad it really goes bad. I would replace it well before GM's recommended 150k/5 year interval. Maybe cut that in half.
As far as real "research" I don't think your going to find any. Its not in anyone's interest to fund such research. DexCool, is a long-life coolant. You can use regular coolant in any car that had DexCool. Keeping DexCool supposedly allows for a 5 year coolant life, if you add regular coolant to a car filled with Dex Cool, you then end up changing after 2 years. So only i asked not to use dex cool coolant. PLEASE ACCEPT AND RATE MY SOLUTION IF SATISFIED

My 1998 olds intrique does not want to shift from the park position to the drive position. It seems to be worse when the weather is cooler in the mornings. Do you think this could be caused by a faulty shift lock solenoid located under the console cover.
