Engine light came on. Had diagnostics done....need catalytic converter. engine light no longer on. Do I have to have a catalytic converter? I have 108,000 miles on my car
Yes its law ,but it shouldnt have gone at this mileage unless you have put leaded petrol in,try new oxygen sensors in the exhaust and i think that will cure it ,Nice profit margin on a new cat for a garage up to 70% of the retail price for a dealer .50% for a general garage ,plus labour
Who told you you needed a converter? Just because the code points to the converter does not necessarily mean it is bad. It just means the converter is being effected. However if you have been driving this car for a long time with the light on, it may have damaged the converter especially if you had a miss or an overly rich fuel/air mixture. If the light is not on then I would not replace the catalytic converter at this time. If the light comes back on, which it will, if the problem was not corrected, then take it to a professional to see exactly what the problem is without guessing. Guessing can cost you plenty.

I am trying to replace a low beam headlight bulb but cannot get the headlight out. I removed 2 top bolts and a third just in front of the left side tire. Is there another bolt and if not how do I get the headlight out?

A couple of months ago, while pulling into my drive way my 2005 Nissan Altima died on me. The engine completely shut off (no sputter) and my steering column locked up. My check engine and battery light came on. I called the local Nissan dealership and they told me it could possibly be the crankshaft sensor and considering the distance to the dealership I probably should have the car towed in to avoid an accident. I had the car towed in. They hooked it up to the computer and told me that it was not the crankshaft sensor that my car was simply out of gas. While I will concede, the car was low on fuel, it was not out of gas. The fuel light was not on. I left the dealership upset that they that they tried to make me look stupid and I took the car home. A couple of weeks ago, the car sputtered while driving at a low speed, but never died. It has never done that, and I just chalked it up to an air bubble or trash in the fuel. Tonight, the car sputtered again while pulling into a parking space and died on me. The check engine and battery light came on again. The car was still in drive when it died. The car has 3/4 tank of gas.
