I pulled my front tank out, and my fuel pump is shot , so i know i need a new one. The tank is dirty as well , with good (or bad i guess) amounts of sludge on the bottom (truck has sat up for a while), and some harder residue / junk all through the tank, but i don't think any rust. Is there a product that i can use to help loosen all the crud? Something i can pour in and let set? Then dump out? Or how else can i do this? Can't afford a new tank right now.

- that's about $140 at parts store , ...can't afford. i COULD get one at "Pick-n-Pull" for $30, but i'd be taking a chance..
Radiator shops use "Caustic Soda" to clean radiators and fuel tanks. I dont know if thats easily available? If not I would have a radiator shop clean it for you.
Try this: http://thetankbank.com/ The prices here are the most reasonable I have ever found and the lady who owns the place really knows her Sh*t! Maybe you can afford one and save yourself a lot of time and hassel trying to clean up your old one.

- By the time and money you spend on kerosene, engine degreaser, and large quantities of carb cleaner...you could have bought an already cleaned used tank and had it installed by now. I got a price for my 96 GMC Sierra 4 x 4 which has a 25 gal. tank for $65.00 used, but you could not tell it was used!

1990 F150, dual tanks. Front tank won't fill. Everytime I try the pump will click off. took about 5 mins to get 25 cents worth of fuel in it. Rear tank works, but leaks a little from the seam, so i will be replacing that rear tank. If i could get the front working it would be great. Why won't the front fill?

What makes it sputter? I have replaced sensors, fuel pump, spark plugs, & plug wires. I have run injector cleaner through it. I have added HEAT for moisture. But nothing is working.
