When the tranny is cold it shifts slowly (i.e. the shifts are not crisp). As the tranny warms up the shifting improves until it starts to shift normally. I was told that the seals are going out and the transmission needs to be overhauled. This is very expensive for my car (approx $2200). What is meant by overhauling a transmission versus rebuilding one? Could my problem be cured by just installing a rebuilt valve body? I have located a company that sells them for a quarter of the price that a overhaul will cost. I have minimal transmission knowledge but after reviewing a repair manual It looks very easy to do. Thanks! Additional info: the transmission fluid has had a drain and fill at 90K and recently has been flushed. I have a strainer on order that I will also attempt to replace but doubt it will do anything. The dipstick on my car states that under normal driving the transmission fluid should not need replacing. The transmission fluid is not a synthetic however.
