My 2000 Grand Voyager shuts down at any speed. I was told it was in the tranny. Call me an IDIOT but I let them replace it and now two months later same problem. I thought from the start it could be the ECM. Any thoughts???????

- Thanks for the reply.... The van belongs to a friend and the problem started two months ago and SOME HOW it ended up at tranny shop. She thought since the tranny would not shift out of second gear it had to be the problem. Well $1700 bucks and two months later they she has same problem. They took it back to tranny shop and they want to put another NEW tranny in.... So I asked her to bring it to me today. Im about 99% sure it the ECM....

Clarification Request

If you mean by "shuts down at any speed" .....the engine stops running, then it would definitely NOT have anything to do with the tranny. I would be more inclined to agree with you in thinking ECM related! Where do you stand at this time? Contact: over4dy@yahoo.com

If the cutting off problem only occurs when warm to hot engine temperatures and after it cuts off and you wait a few minutes and it doers start back up...then it's your fuel filter. This is a common problem on "S" Body Chrysler products and since the computer doesn't monitor such things as fuel pressure, no codes will be brought up. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a fuel filter and replace it yourself. The fuel filter is located where the back end of the passenger door and the sliding door meet. It's attached to the inside of the frame and is covered in some NASA looking foil with two clamps...a fuel flow directional arrow and a 13 mm bolt holding it in place. Before removing the clamps, remove your fuel filler cap (gas cap) to remove some of the pressure there. To prove to yourself that it was the fuel filter, get an old white container and blow through the outlet side...or against the flow of the arrow and watch all the debris come out. I've replaced many of them for people, but always take my shop's air compressor and I blow the filter out completely in the opposite direction of the arrow and tell the customer to hang onto it in case they're on a trip and the same thing happens again. This way they'll have an extra fuel filter until they can get a new one.
