How do I turn off the passengers air bag as it is making noise when the ignition is turned off.
It sounds like the bag is moving inside the dashboard.
Thanks
The first thing you do is to disconnect the Battery's Negative Post. The Air Bag System has to wait two minutes for the capacitor to discharge after removing the negative cable end so you don't accidentally deploy the air bags. Then under the glove-box behind the parking brake, there's a module bolted to the "hump under there. This is the "brains" of the Air Bag System. Unplug it from the module, Now if you have a scanner, hook it up (don't hook the negative cable up as of yet), and then place the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON Position. Then with no one inside the vehicle, hook up the negative cable. If you have a code scanner you may have the Air Bag warning light stay on, but this is what will happen when it runs it's diagnostic procedure prior to dropping it into gear. To be a little bit more legal, I've seen people remove the instrument cluster and remove the bulb to the air bag warning light. It will not pass a vehicle inspection, but your only other alternative is to take it to the Dealership and have the passenger side air bag repaired. The aforementioned fix I provided you above is a "limp-in mode", or a safety fix so you can drive it to a place of repair without the passenger side air bag deploying causing you to have to replace the dash board where it splits upon release. Should you hook the negative cable back up and all is well, reach in above or behind the steering wheel and turn the key to the OFF position and then start the engine to make sure nothing deploys.
I do however recommending you take the vehicle in for the Technicians to run their DRB III, as Chrysler calls it, to diagnose the hissing sound to that air bag.
