Check the shift levers {connections} underneath the car, which is connecting your shift manual to the gear; it may adrift {shifted} from its place or has loose bolts (Nuts), etc.
Check gear oil level; it maybe low in oil (you didn't mention what kind of gear you have = whither manual or automatic)?.
If it's manual gear; check it's clutch reservoir oil level { the X-mission} clutch normally using DOT 3 OR DOT 4 brake fluid, consult your car's service booklet comes at front cabin drawer { gloves compartment}.

my 1995 ford explore is making a clicking sound when I try and start and the alarm goes off and won't turn off for at least a minute. do you know what could be causing this?
