in the box on the right-hand side of the engine bay, up behind the strut top. The lid has the fuse designations on it but its not in diagram form, they are numbered 1 to 30 and you must count the fuses as indicated to get to the right one.
The fault however, could be the wiper relay. Its hidden under the nearside air con filter box. Common failure, get from dealers or germanandswedish.com, around £11 GBP or $25 USD as far as I know.

98 bmw 323ic checked fan thermostadt water pump no problem. Filled with fluid and bled off air. Drove on short trips no problem. Drove on the interstate for 75 miles no problem. Left house 1 hour later and it overheated right away. It sat over night and drove next day no problem.
