- no but i don't see how it could do anything bad if it is circulating good. it is not leaking there either. it does just fine without thermostat. but it is new

- i know they probably can be defective. i don't think i put it in backwards. pointy side up and spring side down ?
I would have to agree gordonddar... the key is jsut what you said "it works fine without the thermostat". Even though the thermostat is new, it can come form the factory defective.
If it overheats within 2 miles , It is definitely the Thermostat. Could be faulty , could be upside down , could have a big vapour lock under it.

- My 94 chev p/u has a 5.7 engine (350) if you look down the radiator filler hose , you can see water circulating , however , what you see is water thats going into the rad from the heater hose.
So.... you would still see circulation even if the thermostat was not open.
ok, my truck recently has been going fine and going down the highway about 30 mph or so it just cuts...

ok, my truck recently has been going fine and going down the highway about 30 mph or so it just cuts off. Now it is getting worse, everytime i hit gas pedal sometimes it hesitates and wants to cut off. The service engine light flickers when this happens. The fuel pump works just fine and filter seems ok also i recently replaced plugs and wires what could make my engine want to suddenly cut off and lose power?
