Generic problem for all Volkswagen Beetle Cars

My 71 Beetle Generator light doesn't com...

My 71 Beetle Generator light doesn't come on anymore. When you turn the key to on, both the Gen and Oil light should come on. My gen light just stopped coming on and I don't believe the battery is charging. Oil light still working. Any suggestions?

Make sure the 'gen' light bulb is not burned out. Check the battery voltage when the engine is running at fast idle--it should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts DC. If it reads 12.6 or less, the alternator or voltage regulator is likely defective.

A broken ground wire on the alternator ( generator ) would cause it to not charge , and could also make the light not work.
