noisey rubbing sound especially when in gear, even louder with a/c on and recently smells like burnt rubber after short drive and park. maybe a/c bearing or tensioner going out causing smell of burnt rubber? belt needs replacing ,but probably not the source of the noise and cause of smell.
You may have a frozen bearing on the tensioner or belt idler. This will cause the belt to burn and smell. I think you are on the right track. I would remove the belt and spin the idler and adjuster by hand to see that they are free and don't have excessive play in them. Replace as necessary.

I have a 1999 silverado with the autotrac system. For the last year my 4wd hasn't been working all except for the auto 4wd. That works just fine but the 4hi and 4lo don't work, only the back ones spin. You can hear both the encoder motor and the actuator work. I was told that the 4wd transfer case control module was the culpret. Can this be re-programed by the dealership or does the whole thing have to be replaced? Also, where is this located on the truck.

I have 2001 3/4 ton with 8.1 liter engine and an allison trans.. The shift indicator light in the dash is not working correctly. I think this is causing the check engine soon light to come on and the trans. will not shift out of first. Where is this switch located and is it easy to replace?
