Problem for Chevrolet 1998 K1500
Engine swap 5.0 vortec to 350 non computer controled
1998 chevy z71 4x4 automatic can i change out a 5.0 vortec for a 350 non computer controled engine with a carborator on it wat does the computer run on the truck

- the engine in the truck is shot not even rebuildable i have a 350 that i had rebuilt for my 83 chevy that has only 20,000 miles on it and a 7004r 4x4 trany to get a rebuilt 5.0/305 is $1,900 to $2,400 that i dont have laying around if you know what i mean i did find a 5.3 out of a 99 with the computer and wiring for it for $400 but was told that i would have to change the whole wire system for the truck is that true?Nov 05, 2009
- can i take the 5.0 heads and intake and timming cover and put them on a 350 non vortec and have it work?i know that you can do that with the older 305 and the 350 every thing would line up and bolt on small block to small blockClarification Request

well have no idea what u need to do here, no one has ever wanted to go back to a crude older system without fuel injection.

The computer runs the Transmission from the signals the throttle position sensor, crank shaft sensor, and cam shaft sensor. Your going to have to replace the transmission with an older transmission like the turbo 350 or turbo 400. When it's time to get the car e-tested, that's when your going to run in to problems, due to the year your Chevy is. If your Chevy was a 1985 then you could go with the carb system but with being the newer OBD11 system, your going to have an off road only vehicle with that swap. Why would you want to replace the engine with the 350 carb set up??? There are things you can do to tweak the one in your Chevy free of charge.
